Position Summary

Under general supervision of the Buildings/Grounds Supervisor, the Facilities Maintenance Specialist-Advanced performs complex skilled and semi-skilled tasks at WVHUG. The position inspects, installs, adjusts, maintains, and repairs mechanical custodial, office, and medical care systems and controls, and buildings/grounds equipment and structures.

The incumbent provides winter grounds maintenance, and leads, trains, and coordinates the work of other Facilities Maintenance staff or contractors. In addition, the position performs administrative tasks associated with maintenance activities, and ensures work is performed in accordance with regulations, guidelines, and standards.

Salary Information

Starting wage is $22.78 per hour, plus an attractive employee benefits package. Additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

This position is in pay schedule-range 03-13. For current State employees, pay on hire will be set following the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

Job Details

Job duties require the ability to move, remove, and install objects, occasionally exerting over 100 pounds of force; climb and work on ladders and/or scaffolding; work with loud, shaking and/or vibrating equipment; and adjust or increase work hours as needed to meet operational needs.

Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

Employees at this healthcare facility are required to report their COVID-19 vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information by their third day of employment.

A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

In their application materials, minimally qualified applicants will provide details about their experience:

  • Performing maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems, components, and equipment (e.g., lighting, power, communications, security, using blueprints/schematics, completing documentation, portable air conditioners or heaters, etc.); and

  • Troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing miscellaneous commercial equipment (e.g., food preparation and disposal machinery, laundry machinery, power floor care systems, power tools, etc.)

Well-qualified applicants will also provide details about their experience:

  • Performing maintenance duties in a healthcare or commercial setting, especially one that is similar to WVHK

Additional required and preferred qualifications that will be addressed at a later stage in the selection process are:

  • Experience performing maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems, components, and related auxiliary equipment; and

  • Experience completing, recording, and submitting paper and electronic requisition forms; and/or

  • Experience repairing, troubleshooting, and installing pneumatic, electrical, and related systems and components; and/or

  • Experience using computers and technology to complete tasks
