Position Function:

Oversees the daily operations and maintenance of the buildings and grounds of North MS Research and Extension Center and its branch stations. Maintains equipment and supplies at the facilities. Responsible for ensuring that the facilities are safe, up to code, and fully operational.

Salary Grade: 14

Department Profile:

The North Mississippi Research and Extension Center (NMREC) is one of four Research and Extension Centers in the MSU System. The NMREC is located in Verona, MS.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1.Oversees the general management and operation of facilities to include maintenance management, facilities operation, custodial operations, ground maintenance, environmental compliance, and space scheduling.

2.Coordinates the maintenance of facilities, buildings, and equipment, as appropriate, to ensure optimum functionality; identifies, assesses, negotiates as necessary, and resolves building maintenance and usage problems.

3.Serves as liaison between facility operations and outside vendors; recommends correction of deficiencies; coordinates remodeling activities, as appropriate to the position. Managing all vendor contracts (HVAC, electrical, plumbing and security companies).

4.Oversees maintenance support in cooperation with unit faculty and staff for vehicles equipment, and other station resources to including management of motor pool, vehicle maintenance and scheduled services and repairs, vehicle purchases, and supervision of motor pool personnel.

5.Responsible for property inventory control and monitoring of facilities related spending (non-research).

6.May supervise and/or lead other facilities staff and/or intermittent employees.

7.Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and 1 year of experience directly related to the job duties or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Must have experience driving tractors and other farm related equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.

  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

  • Records maintenance skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.

  • Knowledge of building design, construction, and maintenance.

  • Ability to schedule events and/or facilities usage.

  • Organizing and coordinating skills.

  • Skill in utilizing building security and lock systems and procedures.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion. Often exposed to one or

more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc.

  • Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and

predictable priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves

occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate


  • Job frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, stooping/kneeling,

crouching/crawling, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 50


  • Job occasionally requires sitting, climbing, or balancing.

  • Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
