FACILITIES AND TECHNOLOGY DIRECTOR

Position Overview:

The Facilities and Technology Director is responsible for all aspects of facility operations and planning for the School of Nursing (SoN) on the Twin Cities and Rochester campuses of the University of Minnesota. This includes classrooms, conference rooms, faculty and staff offices, instructional clinical simulation laboratories, and common areas. The position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer, works closely with the Dean and Executive Council, and interacts with all levels of the SoN organization and with facilities and technology professionals across the University. It requires excellent professional communication and interpersonal skills, problem-solving, organization, prioritization, attention to detail and timely follow through. The Facilities and Technology Director supervises the Senior Facilities Coordinator and multiple undergraduate student employees.

Key Responsibilities:

Management and Supervision (35%)

  • Senior Facilities Coordinator

  • Undergraduate Student Employees

  • Screen, interview, select, onboard, train, schedule, supervise, evaluate

  • Manage user support and assistance for classroom and conference room audio-visual (AV) technology systems

  • University Maintenance, Cleaning and Trades

  • Request service level agreements, work orders, etc.

  • Ensure work is properly completed as scheduled

  • External Vendors

  • Develop/determine specifications

  • Identify vendors

  • Request quotations

  • Work with SoN Business Office for purchase orders, contracts, etc.

  • Ensure goods are received in working order and services are properly completed

as scheduled

Facilities Operations and Planning (35%)

  • Serve as Primary Building Contact (PBC) for Weaver-Densford Hall and Primary Department Facility Representative (DFR) for the SoN in the University Services

Facilities Management Facility Roles Program

  • Serve as SoN Emergency Coordinator

  • Manage SoN use of TRIRIGA enterprise asset management system, including building and room Ucard and key access, space management, and key and computer inventories

  • Plan, coordinate and oversee improvements, renovations and maintenance of offices, classrooms, conference rooms, and other spaces.

  • Plan and prepare annual operating, equipment and project budgets

  • Coordinate assignment of offices and other spaces in partnership with the Chief Administrative Officer

  • Oversee operations of the Bentson Healthy Communities Innovation Center in partnership with the Associate Dean for Academic Programs

  • Ensure all facilities-related documents are kept current, including the SoN intranet, building emergency plans, instructions for using classroom and conference room AV

systems, etc.

Technology Management and Support (30%)

  • Classroom and conference room AV technology systems user support and assistance

  • Train undergraduate student employees to operate and troubleshoot AV systems in SoN and Health Sciences Education Center (HSEC) classrooms and

conference rooms

  • Manage student employees and Senior Facilities Coordinator to provide support and assistance to faculty and other users of AV systems in coordination with

Health Sciences Classroom Services and SoN Course Scheduler; provide backup support when needed

  • Clinical simulation technology

  • Virtual reality including headsets

  • Manikins

  • Video capture system in the Bentson Center; record and edit simulation events

  • Computer device management

  • Manage SoN computers - procure and distribute both new and recycled computers

  • Manage the computer replacement cycle

  • Recommend changes and/or improvements to equipment as needed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum of eight years' progressive experience managing facility operations and planning in a large, complex organization

  • Experience managing people including screening, interviewing and selecting applicants; and planning, directing and evaluating the work of supervisees

  • Experience managing audio-visual (AV) technology systems and user support

  • Proficiency with Google Suite (Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, Drive) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)

  • Strong oral and written communication, organization, and prioritization skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of medical simulation technology used in instructional clinical simulation laboratories

  • Experience working in facilities management at the University of Minnesota; given understanding of best practices is able to recommend capital and process improvements

to SoN

  • Experience working in facilities management in an academic health science setting
