Job Overview:

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities and Maintenance Specialist is responsible for performing duties to repair and maintain machinery, equipment, building, and facilities requiring a broad knowledge of maintenance skills including mechanical repair, plumbing, welding, carpentry, fabrication, and a basic knowledge of electrical repair.

The Facilities and Maintenance Specialist is also responsible for leading the safety program and safety training for all employees.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include the following: other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Install, repair, rebuild, and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment used in production and related services.

  • Lead safety program and safety training for all employees (includes overall safety along with crane and forklift certification).

  • Diagnose machine malfunctions and operating difficulties.

  • Make repairs or adjustments to keep equipment in production and/or operational.

  • Rebuild machines and overhaul troublesome components and attachments to involve dismantling, inspection, machining, or replacement of purchased parts.

  • Perform skilled operations such as filing and aligning bearings, spindles, and shafts; adjust feed and limit mechanisms, gibs, and ways.

  • Perform various activities relative to the installation of new machine/equipment and relocation of existing machines and equipment to involve dismantling, erection, leveling, fitting, and aligning operations.

  • Perform maintenance on the buildings, facilities, and grounds.

  • Assist to determine the nature and scope of forthcoming projects and the requirements for completion.

  • Perform preventative maintenance on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning units.

  • Maintain required maintenance logs and files.

  • Perform routine housekeeping activities in the department and ensure adherence to established safety procedures and requirements.

  • General electric work (running 110-480V power as deemed appropriate/allowable by Facilities Manager/code).

  • Help with general plant layout in both facilities as deemed necessary.

  • TIG welding and SST mechanical work.

  • Control System wiring and support.

  • Brewing and food lab mechanical assistance on testing and brewing days.

  • Share best practices with cross functional teams across the organization.

  • Work with customers and the sales team on special projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • Requires the ability to operate various tools and equipment to include various hand and power tools, metal fabrication equipment, welding equipment, plumbing equipment, and various measuring equipment.

  • Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Education and/or Experience:

Requires a broad knowledge of mechanical repair and maintenance as may be acquired in a three-year formalized program including blueprint reading and interpretation plus up to three years extensive experience in a variety of maintenance trades.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
