SUMMARY

Supervises and effectively manages people and product(s) within a division while leveraging policies, procedures, and company strategies to meet production commitments. Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining Key Performance Indicator's (KPI's) relating to Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. Primary responsibilities will include planning, assigning, monitoring, and evaluating the work of Supervisors, Team Leaders, and Associates in the fabrication of steel, aluminum, and galvanized components. The Manager will be responsible for hiring, training, and actively managing Associates to ensure Company processes, policies, and procedures are followed. The Fabrication Manager will uphold all Safety & Quality expectations and ensure optimal Productivity and Efficiency is achieved.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Directs the activities of the Supervisor, Team Leaders and Associates to support all safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement goals.

  • Collaborates with the Director of Manufacturing Operations to control costs using budgets and cost reduction programs; to ensure dept. meets, or exceeds, corporate goals and expectations; and to ensure all Associates are properly trained for efficiency and safety.

  • Develops and implements cost saving plans that support company goals within the department.

  • Determines production schedules and estimates work requirements for completion of job assignment.

  • Assists Metal Plant Manager in the future planning of sales growth plans and production constraints.

  • Coordinates customer requirements with Sales and Customer Service on special delivery requests.

  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.

  • Initiates and motivates Associates to achieve work goals.

  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

  • Interprets specifications and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.

  • Facilitates and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.

  • Accurately maintains schedules, quality and production records.

  • Work with other Managers and Supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.

  • Supports all preventive maintenance of machines and equipment.

  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.

  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises up to 3 Supervisors, 10 Technical Leaders, material handlers and operations coordinators who direct up to 125 Associates in the Metal Plant Fabrication Department. Carries out managerial and supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Requires proven managerial leadership and problem-solving skills

  • Must have good knowledge of the manufacturing process including engineering methods, the quality system, manufacturing technology, capacity analysis, and safety requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of people management and resource management

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Requires good verbal/written communication skills to deal effectively with employees, staff departments and vendors in items that occasionally are sensitive and confidential

  • Must be able to lead effective meetings

  • Must demonstrate good use of judgment, planning, organizing, delegation, analysis and follow up. Financial acumen - understands budgeting, compensation systems, income statements and project justification.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with a degree and at least 3 years' of experience in Industrial / Operations Management; or Associate's Degree with 5 years related experience and/or training; or 8+ years of Industrial Operations.

Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and computerized color analysis. Working knowledge of Federal and State safety and health requirements, including EPA and OSHA laws, preferred. Must be able to read and interpret piece part and assembly drawings.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The Associate frequently is required to walk. The Associate is occasionally required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The Associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the Associate occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
