Norfolk State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant/Associate

Professor rank in The Ethetyn R. Strong School of Social Work.

Duties include teaching across the BSW/MSW curriculum with a generalist social work framework and a social justice focus. The candidate selected is expected to demonstrate and engage in scholarship; provide evidence or potential for exemplary teaching; serve as a professional advisor; provide dissertation support to doctoral students, and engage in service at the university, community, regional, and national levels. Although we are open to candidates that can teach various courses across programs, we desire candidates that can teach advanced statistics courses in both the master's and PhD programs- This is a full-time, on-site, tenure track position (nine-month) beginning August 2024.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work at Norfolk State University offers a BSW, MSW, and PhD in Social Work.

The School of Social Work enrolls more than 300 exemplary students and employs nearly 30 talented faculty and staff. The School of Social Work faculty produce scholarly work in the areas of child welfare, health, mental health, military social work, macro/community practice, LGBTQ, spirituality, and self-care, Since 2021, the School of Social Work has received nearly $2 million dollars in grants and contracts.

Minimum Qualifications

1.MSW degree from a CSWE accredited program.

2.DSW or PhD in Social Work or PhD in a related field. Terminal degree is required at the time of employment.

3.Teaching experience and/or evidence of research and scholarly activity.

Additional Considerations

1.Five years full-time teaching (associate professor) experience in social work at the undergraduate or graduate level.

2.Experience in grantsmanship and scholarship that is commensurate with employment at the rank of associate professor.

3.Applicants at the rank of associate professor must demonstrate strong research capacity and potential for external funding.

4.Ability to teach advanced statistics course.
