Overview of the Department

Norfolk State University's Department of Health, Physical Education, and Exercise Science (HPEEX)is housed in the School of Education (SOE). The department offers the Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science with concentrations in Health Fitness Instructor (HFI), Health Wellness Rehabilitation (HWR), Kinesiotherapy (KIN), and Health Physical Education P-12 (HPE).

Statement of the Position

The Department of Health, Physical Education, and Exercise Science (HPEEX) within the School of Education at Norfolk State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Exercise Science (F0007) position, with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2024. We seek candidates that have expertise in Exercise Physiology, Clinical Kinesiology, and/or Biomechanics as well as clinical experience in rehabilitative settings as a Kinesiotherapist, Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer, and or Exercise Physiologist. Review of Applications will begin November | and continue until the position is filled.

The successful candidate will teach classes within the undergraduate Kinesiotherapy (KIN), Health Fitness Instructor (HFI), and Health Wellness Rehabilitation (HWR) concentrations of the Exercise Science degree. The candidate will assist with clinical supervision of Exercise Science/Kinesiotherapy majors and collaborate with department faculty to update and develop CAAHEP certification reports for the accrediting bodies of the American Kinesiotherapy Association (AKTA) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). The candidate will advise and mentor students, hold office hours as designated by the University, engage in program development, curriculum reviews, and assessment of student learning, provide support for program coordination and administration (e.g., recruitment, admissions, programming), and serve on Departmental, School, and University committees. The candidate will conduct scholarly research, publish in respected refereed scholarly journals and/or academic presses, and participate in other scholarly activities to secure external funding.

Minimum Qualifications

1.A Ph.D. (ABD considered)in a related field such as: Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Human Movement Sciences, or Rehabilitative Sciences from an accredited program is necessary.

2.Candidates should demonstrate expertise in the following disciplines:

Exercise Physiology, Clinical Kinesiology, and/or Biomechanics.

3.Candidates must possess considerable knowledge and 1-3 years of independent clinical practice in rehabilitative settings as a Kinesiotherapist, Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer, and or Exercise Physiologist.

Additional Considerations

1.Preference will be given to candidates that are licensed and/or certified professionals in

rehabilitation settings.

2.Candidates that possess Registered Kinesiotherapist (RKT) certification and knowledge of CAAHEP accreditation standards and procedures are highly preferred.

3.Candidates experienced with short-term and long-term rehabilitative exercise programs for people transitioning out of hospital- based treatment are preferred also.

4.Preference will be given to candidates with a record of teaching courses related to Human Movement (i.e., Exercise Physiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Kinesiology, etc.) and a demonstrated ability for effective verbal and written communication to a diverse

student-body audience.

5.A record of published research in the field of Kinesiology, Rehabilitative, and/or Human Movement Sciences is preferred as well.
