Visionworks is recruiting for a qualified, friendly, team oriented candidate to join our staff as a Lab Journeyperson (Lab Tech). The Lab Tech is responsible for selecting, cutting, edging, finishing, surfacing, fitting lenses to frames, and providing customers high quality eyewear delivered as promised. They will also maintain Lab equipment in good working order through proper maintenance.

Essential Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Routinely demonstrate hands on proficiency of all objectives in the Lab Certification Program
Ensure all jobs are clocked in upon receipt and clocked out after final lab inspection
Control lab inventory through auditing
Perform SKU exchanges as required in accordance with Company policy
Assemble and insert lenses into frames, bench aligns finished pair of glasses, and polishes edges. Check for scratches or defects in lenses
Perform regular machine maintenance in accordance with maintenance checklist and report equipment malfunctions to the Manager on Duty
Meet Company safety rules and standards to include following guidelines for hazardous material handling and waste disposal
Adhere to privacy and confidential and proprietary company policies and procedures (i.e. HIPAA)
May cross train in the retail area

Qualified Candidates will possess the following:
2 - 4 years of related experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
At least one (1) year of Lab Apprentice experience Preferred
Bilingual Preferred
Machinist or machine operation, fabrication/production experience Preferred
Must meet all Lab Certification requirements--on the job lab training provided
Able to work a varying schedule to include: days, nights, weekends and holidays

This role delivers sustainable operational improvements in safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity by participating in or leading projects, and additionally ensures that new processes contain and use continuous improvement methodologies. The CI Supervisor may engage exempt and non-exempt employees across all shifts and functional departments in the CI process and delivers appropriate LEAN/CI education for creating and sustaining a CI culture. Description of Duties: * Utilizes PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) and DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) methodologies to actively participate in continuous improvement projects that impact safety, quality, efficiency, and/or productivity. * Apply E3 concept (Engage, Enable, and Empower) within project activities to ensure project sustainability with work force. * Provide support to production compounding supervisors and/or other managers that could include but is not limited to Quality, Distribution, Warehouse, Tech Services, and others to deliver operational improvements using Lean and continuous improvement methodology and tools simplify existing processes. * Assist in identifying LEAN/CI needs and help develop implementation plans with Production and CI directors provide the updating of the Lean project hopper/ tracker. * Provide monthly report out to Lena Director on projects status within department. * Participate in preparing LEAN/CI training's to hourly Supervise shift personnel when needed and exempt employees as required Support assist when needed with compounding activities to ensure timely completion of production schedule. * Support and enforce corporate and department procedures/policies for manufacturing operations including batch making procedures and quality requirements. * Participate in monthly reporting regarding metrics, performance, and progress under the directions Support and enforce personnel policies, codes of Process Improvement Director. Collect and conduct preliminary analysis in preparation and expectations for meeting with appropriate Management. Represent division/department as needed at LEAN/CI events. Supervised staff. * Supervise and enforce corporate safety policies and safe work practices. * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: Two years of college or technical school preferred. Coursework including math, science and computer applications, preferred. Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of lead/supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment. Minimum 2-5 years manufacturing experience; previous compounding, filling, and assembly experience. Lean and/or Six Sigma certified, or the ability to complete Lean and/or Six Sigma training. Able to use appropriate Lean tools to support CI projects and understands foundational aspects of Lean. Other Essential Skills/Requirements: Professional communication skills and proven leadership capabilities. Spreadsheet, Word-Processing and SAP skills. Safety Training. HazMat Training. Supervisory Training. Working knowledge and mechanical aptitude with chemical processing equipment. Problem solving/troubleshooting. Must be available up to 50 hours/week.
