The Ophthalmic Assistant (OA) performs a variety of duties related to providing patient ophthalmic care and customer service.

The schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. There may be occassional travel between AHN locations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Obtain patient medical records/history

  • Perform preliminary eye function testing directly on patients

  • Scribe for Physicians during examinations

  • Assist Physicians with procedures

  • Triage patient phone calls

  • Prepare examination rooms and maintain inventory of medical supplies

  • Conduct patient education about procedures and proper medical care

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • Current Ophthalmic certification or ability to obtain certification after 1 year of employment

  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail systems, and web-based programs

  • You will be asked to perform this role in an office setting or other company location

  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ophthalmic Assistant (OA/COA)
  • Medical Assistant (MA/CMA) or related clinical experience

Proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases is an employment requirement.

Position Details: Location: American Health Network, a Part of Optum: 3631 N Morrison Rd Ste 200, Muncie, IN 47304 Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. No evenings, weekends or holidays. Specialty: Orthopedics Primary Responsibilities: * Prepare examination rooms and sterilize medical equipment & instruments. * Room patients, obtain health history and check vital signs. * Document patient care using electronic medical record software. * Administer medications and perform injections/immunizations. * Assist providers with minor, in-office procedures and perform point-of-care testing. * Schedule appointments, complete prior authorizations, process medication refills, handle referrals and answer patient calls. Required Qualifications: * High school diploma or completion of an equivalent adult education program * Medical Assistant diploma, technical certificate or certification OR 1+ years of experience performing the critical skills of a medical assistant after on-the-job training OR Current enrollment in an accredited Medical Assistant program OR EMT certification OR active, unrestricted LPN license OR Certified Surgical Technologist Preferred Qualifications: * Previous experience working as a Medical Assistant, CST, EMT or LPN * Active medical assistant certification (CMA, CCMA, NCMA or RMA) * Experience with electronic medical record software * CPR certification * Experience performing medical back office tasks including obtaining vital signs, injections/immunizations and administering medications. * Experience performing medical front office tasks including scheduling appointments, prior authorizations, medication refills and referrals.
