This is a part-time contract position.

Job Summary

The Women's Lacrosse Assistant Coaches will have a sound understanding of the development of students to fulfill their mission as BYU students and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The assistant coach will fulfill the responsibilities of assistant coaching, scheduling, and development of the Women's Lacrosse team members. The assistant coach will work effectively in a professional manner on and off the field with university administrators. The assistant coach will follow university guidelines related to academic standards, policies, Honor Code, and administrative needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Women's Lacrosse Assistant Coaches are expected to:

  • Follow university policies related to academic standards and the Honor Code and ensure team compliance.

  • Collaborate with administrators to provide success for students on and off the field.

  • Report injuries and/or safety concerns to the Athletic Training Manager

  • Attend all practices and home games (non-negotiable)

  • Travel with the team to all away games (non-negotiable)

  • Maintain clear communication with coaching staff and athletes.

  • Be approachable and professional on and off the field.

  • Make academics the top priority for team members.

  • Support the Head Coach in development and/or execution of practice plans.

  • Game day preparations, arrive early to:

  • Maintain proper storage of equipment and other team gear.

  • Set an example of good sportsmanship.

  • Know and understand the rules of the game.

  • Know Extramural Sports and US Lacrosse eligibility policies.

  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Head Coach or team Administrator (i.e. coordinating team travel arrangements or team equipment/uniform needs

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma (required)
  • Bachelor's Degree; preferably in Physical Education, Recreation Management, Exercise Science & Wellness, Student Affairs, or related field (preferred)
  • Assistant coached 1 or more years at high school or equivalent level (preferred)
  • Assistant coached Women's Lacrosse at university level (preferred)

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:

  • Be familiar with US Lacrosse guidelines and regulations (preferred)
  • Be an approachable and professional person in the workplace (required)
  • Be capable of developing leadership opportunities for students via team involvement (required)
  • Make graduation from college, the highest priority for team members (required)
  • Be an example to students and operate within the boundaries established by the missions of BYU (required)
  • Motivate students to do well academically, and work tirelessly to support the Honor Code and the principles it stands for (required)
  • Collaborate with administrators to provide success for students on and off the field (required)

Additional Comments:

This position is a Part-time Category Ill contracted position working no more than 17.5 hours per week. It is renewed annually based on the development and the needs of the team, at the will of the University. The assistant coach reports directly to the Extramural Sports Coordinator. There are no benefits associated with this position. There are minimal physical tasks aside from assistant coaching in all types of weather conditions. This position may be restricted from working in any other capacity at BYU, due to the Affordable Care Act guidelines for part-time classifications.
