Extraction and Blending Technician (R&D) Job Description
This full time employee is responsible for the operation of all pilot-scale equipment used in the development of new products and Operations-based process improvement technologies to support the corporate objectives and strategic goals of Gaia Herbs, Inc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
New Products and Reformulation
Manufactures pilot-scale batches according to batch instructions and operating procedures (SOPs).
Maintains detailed documentation for each batch produced.
Operations-Based Process Improvement
Participates in validation process for new or improved technologies.
Provides feedback to R&D Production Manager.
Assists in development of SOP's.
Assists and supports Operations
Follows all procedures and documents associated with the extraction and blending processes.
Maintains and completes all documentation for work-in-process and BPRs, ensuring all production batches are manufactured according to specifications and in compliance with all cGMP and company SOP's.
Follows all associated SOPs in the daily process of setting up, loading, operating and cleaning of TD Extractors and blending equipment.
Reports daily status of pilot equipment and batches to R&D Production Manager.
Completes interdepartmental requests for materials and processing.
Education and/or Experience
High school degree or GED required
Manufacturing background in dietary supplements preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, test methods, standard operating procedures and memos
Ability to write in a technical manner experimental details and to summarize results
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret graphs
Ability to perform basic statistical analysis (such as average, standard deviations, etc.)
Ability to use software packages to trend data
Ability to understand all facets of company Batch Production Records (BPRs) associated with the production of materials on the TD extractors
Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in completing controlled documents
Proven federal/state regulatory compliance skills and GMP knowledge and experience
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Strong attention to detail
Ability to make independent decisions based on facts
Proven ability to multi-task in administrative, analytical, and operational settings, without sacrificing attention to detail, accuracy of record-keeping, or overall productivity

The primary work location of this position is in a manufacturing plant. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually low.
