The Corporate Accounting department is responsible for the timely and accurate recording and reporting of financial results in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requirements. The work is critical to the company's success and provides challenges and variety, including analysis and application of appropriate accounting and disclosure requirements under US GAAP, California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and Federal Regulatory Commission (FERC) orders, and SEC regulations.
The External Reporting team is a sub-team within Corporate Accounting and performs quarterly and annual financial reporting to multiple external regulators such as the SEC, FERC, and the CPUC. The team also completes financial reporting duties for the employee benefit plans, nuclear decommissioning trusts (NDT), and other management reports or external surveys. This high profile team provides a great place for energized and talented employees to ignite their career, make a contribution and be recognized. The work of the team provides exposure to key individuals in Financial Forecasting, Legal, and Investor Relations.
We are seeking a highly motivated, capable Senior Accounting Analyst to work in our External Reporting team. This individual should have strong analytical skills and be detail oriented and self-directed. He or she should have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Prepares complex 10-Q & 10-K reporting disclosures and supporting workpaper documentation
Prepares financial statements and disclosures for various non-SEC reporting requirements (e.g., FERC, CPUC, employee benefit plans, NDT) and supporting workpaper documentation.
Assists in set up of processes and procedures and related documentation
Identifies process improvements to reduce risk and create efficiencies at the desk level
Assists in the implementation of process improvement initiatives undertaken by the department
Prepares and interprets policies, reporting requirements, rules and regulations
Identifies issues, proposes solutions, and documents conclusions with minimal supervision.
Manages communication with external parties (e.g. auditors) and addresses inquiries.
Interprets data, reports and records for managers/stakeholders
Provides supporting documentation and explanations to internal and external auditors.
Identifies and evaluates accounting issues including preparing documentation, proposing solutions and/or communicating issues
Prepares analysis and conclusions of complex accounting issues
Educates the business on accounting topics
Reviews emerging standards and considers their impact on PG&E
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent work experience
Minimum of four years of accounting experience
Six or more years relevant experience
Proficient computer skills (Excel/Word/SAP)
Knowledge of financial analysis and internal controls
Strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC and FERC requirements
Excellent research and issue resolution skills
Ability to assess and recommend solutions for complex projects
CPA or equivalent desired
