Salary is commensurate with trainingand experience. The Center for

Profitable Agriculture is a department within the University of TennesseeExtension and a partnership with the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation. TheCenter staff work to help farmers analyze and develop value-added agricultureenterprises. To achieve this mission, the Marketing Specialist will:

  • Develop astatewide Extension educational program based on marketing fundamentals insupport of value-added agriculture enterprise development.

  • Plan, develop,implement, evaluate and report value-added educational programs with a focus onthe marketing needs of clientele.

  • Provideleadership for market analysis and development in various value-addedagriculture program and project areas.

  • Provideleadership in the development of Extension educational programs and participatein educational programs in various functions such as planning team member,coordinator, speaker, moderator, etc.

  • Provide trainingin value-added enterprise development for Extension agents and ExtensionSpecialists.

  • Secure externalfunding for programs through grants, contracts, gifts and/or fees.

  • Evaluate andreport inputs, outcomes, impacts and accomplishments.

  • Provideleadership for a program of activities that meets the needs of all eligibleclientele regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability,religion or veteran status.

  • Assumeother duties as assigned.


  • Develop effective teaching tools suchas publications, fact sheets, presentations, worksheets, web-based tools andother creative tools to enhance the delivery and understanding of informationon value-added marketing and market development.

  • Conduct market analysis, developmarketing plans, assist in development of marketing materials and evaluatemarketing strategies for value-added agriculture product ideas and enterprisessubmitted to the Center by farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.

  • Work closely with other members of the

Center as well as program partners in the Tennessee Department of Agricultureand the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation.

  • Contribute to and build partnershipsinside and outside the department and organization.

  • Support, strengthen and participate incounty-based Extension programs.

  • Participate in professionaldevelopment opportunities.



  • Master's degreein Agricultural Economics, Economics, Marketing or Business Administration. AMaster's Degree in a closely related field will be considered with the additionof at least 3 years work experience in value-added agriculture, directmarketing or/or agritourism which demonstrates promise in Extensionresponsibilities.

  • Have ademonstrated knowledge of marketing fundamentals.

  • Participate in overnighttravel and work beyond the normal work schedule including some evenings andweekends.

  • Be able to applysound judgement and represent the University positively.

  • Be able to workindependently and in teams.

  • Be able to communicatein English (verbally and in writing).

  • Be proficient with computerapplications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook),Internet (Web, e-mail), etc.

  • Be well organizedwith an ability to plan ahead and be able to manage and prioritizeresponsibilities for multiple projects.

  • Have a valid U.S.driver's license and a safe driving record at the time of application.


  • Experience in or strongunderstanding of conducting marketing analysis studies and developing,implementing and evaluating marketing plans.

  • Experience in or strongunderstanding of value-added agriculture enterprise analysis, development andoperation.

  • Knowledge of and experience with using commonsocial media applications such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for marketingpurposes.

  • Ability to develop and implementproactive educational programs.

  • Ability to assess and respond toprogram needs of clients.

  • Experience and ability to workindividually or provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams as well asabilities to work and serve as an effective member of program teams.

  • Experience in grant proposalwriting and development.

  • Knowledge of agricultural

Extension programs and the land-grant mission.

  • Bachelor's degree in an agriculturalfield or significant knowledge of the agricultural industry.

  • Doctoral degree in agricultural economics,economics, marketing, business administration or closely related field welcome.
