Job Description

The Extension Program Specialist II, under general supervision, develops programs, services, products, and/or processes. This position is needed to provide support to county staff through subject matter training for planning and developing educational outreach programs in 4-H Youth Development and serve as a liaison to the Texas Juvenile Prevention Center at Prairie View A&M University.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to get along with co-workers, supervisors, and clientele; performs other duties inclusive as deemed necessary.

  • Develop and provide educational documents, newsletters, fact sheets, curriculum, PowerPoint presentations, and videos, to support county agents in-depth and outreach plans; Travel to selected counties to provide technical assistance and training for agents and volunteers work with Program Leaders and Coordinators for submission of content for the Annual Accomplishment Report.

  • Develop and prepare teaching materials, e.g. publications, leaflets, and other informational materials in support of the youth development unit. Facilitate state and county in-service training programs through face-to-face, teleconference, and/or webinar format in life skill development, assessment and readiness, advocacy and leadership. Design, utilize and adapt curriculum to meet the needs of youth and families. Develop comprehensive model plans which address base programs, critical issues, and clientele needs.

  • Provide technical assistance to the Cooperative Extension Program county staff through a variety of educational methods, techniques, activities and methods in formal and non-formal setting; develop strategies for reaching new, diverse and historically under-served youth and families; collaborate with schools, parent-teacher groups, civic groups, church groups and other community organizations to disseminate information and awareness on youth crime and prevention; analyze and interpret program impact data for inclusion in the Federal Plan of Work Accomplishment Report and Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center Report.

Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in applicable field

  • Five or more years of related professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, database, presentation and spreadsheet applications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
