JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

This position assists in the goals and efforts of the Horticulture State Extension Unit and contributes to the research, development, communication, marketing, and presentation of the team's initiatives. The primary focus is Green Industry and integrated pest management in Bucks County with a supporting role in Delaware, Montgomery, Lehigh and Northampton Counties.

The individual will collaborate closely with University Park-based faculty to conduct applied research. This position demonstrates proficient and comprehensive knowledge of horticultural practices, and delivers such knowledge in trainings, educational programs, field visits, group meetings, displays, news articles, and other extension activities. The position will also provide instruction for the regional Master Gardener programs.

Typically requires a Master's Degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties.

A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Review of Applications will begin January 15, 2021

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: OVERVIEW: The Bookkeeper/Administrative Assistant position in the Cooperative Extension Office involves administrative work performing everyday office procedures to assure that the office functions in an organized and efficient manner. This position includes general office duties with a focus on accounting and financial bookkeeping responsibilities. An expectation of a 20 hours per week schedule with some seasonal variation. EDUCATION: Experience/knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures is needed. Computer skills are necessary to perform duties. Experience/knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, and willingness to learn specialized programs is expected. Considerable knowledge of office equipment is needed. Secretarial skills such as typing, filing, meeting the public, and time management are necessary. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the ability to thoroughly grasp principles and practices of administrative duties that pertain to this particular office and work cooperatively with the Business Operations Manager (BOM) and other Penn State educators. Skills in time management, writing, critical thinking, active learning of new information, and communication are also necessary to perform this job successfully. Position requires being pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude. Position requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks. Position requires developing initiative in doing tasks, guiding oneself with limited supervision, and depending on oneself to get things done. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Clerical responsibilities for 4-H, Agriculture/Horticulture, Forestry and extension administration programs, with primary emphasis in Financial record keeping. Update and maintain files as needed. Determine the needs and prepare requisitions covering the supply needs of the office and all other matters relating to the purchasing process of supplies. This responsibility would include ordering publications from Penn State and other sources. Prepare reports and correspondence as requested by county/Penn State office staff. Assist BOM/CRM and/or educators in a variety of administrative detail matters. Prepare invoices, agendas, minutes, and correspondence as needed. General secretarial duties as needed. Receive and distribute mail and e-mail for staff. Maintain mailing lists and databases including Salesforce. Prepare newsletters and program announcements for distribution. Employee should be able to concentrate with numerous distractions. WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL STANDARDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods, stand occasionally, light lifting and the noise level in the work area is usually moderate. This job requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties.
