Extension Service at West Virginia University invites applications for the position of Extension Camp Nurse. These camps will aim to improve socialization and mental health, increase hands on experiential learning opportunities, and promote healthy lifestyles and habits for youth throughout West Virginia.Support Extension program professionals, volunteers and youth in conducting meaningful educational experiences at residential camps, day camps and other non-formal educational events. WVU Extension 4-H pod camps are being held to provide overnight, residential camping programs for West Virginia youth that participate in the 4-H program.

  • Contract dates will be June 1, 2021 through August 27, 2021..

  • Daily Rate of Pay - $100.00

  • All assignments will be a Jackson's Mill, and will require overnight stays.

  • No experience is required.

  • Required Certification - RN License

  • Knowledge of triaging youth patients for proper treatment

  • Knowledge of patient confidentiality practice

  • Strong nursing skills related to treating minor illnesses and injuries

  • Strong interpersonal skills working with adults and youth

  • Ability to be available 24/7 during your 3-day assignment for emergencies

  • Ability to maintain appropriate paperwork and reporting based on incidences

VIEW JOBS 4/28/2021 12:00:00 AM 2021-07-27T00:00 Type of Position: Salary ($100 per day) Room and board provided while on assignment at Jackson's Mill. 14-day assignment on site. Time Required: May 24, 2021 to August 25, 2021, or a portion thereof. Weekends and overnight stays at Jackson's Mill 4-H camp and other venues will be required. Each ECI will be assigned two 2-week assignments at Jackson's Mill over the period of June, July and August 2021. Full assignment schedules will be determined based on need and ambassador availability. Location: Jackson's Mill State 4-H Camp in Weston, WV as well as possible assignments in Lewisburg, WV. General Purpose: WVU 4-H Extension Camping Instructors serve as camp staff during 4-H summer camps and events in West Virginia. Given training and materials, ECI's will deliver pre-arranged curricula to youth at Jackson's Mill 4-H Camp on alternating 2-week intervals, as well as supporting virtual clubs and activities during the time frame of May 24, 2021 to August 25, 2021. Other assignments may include the West Virginia State Fair located in Lewisburg, WV, as well as facility improvement projects and materials organization and distribution. Room and board are provided while on assignment at Jackson's Mill, but ECI's must be able to provide their own transportation to and from the site. ECI's will have the opportunity to work at least 14 days between the May 24, 2021 to August 25, 2021 time frame with additional opportunities possible based on need and availability. Responsibilities: Working under the direction of the supervising Extension Faculty member, the ECI will: 1. Lead organized educational classes and activities at 4-H summer camps, including (but not limited to): * Deliver in-person curriculum courses and activities with youth throughout the day at Jackson's Mill following WVU safety protocol and social distancing guidelines. * Lead and coteach scheduled virtual classes and activities with youth. * Assist ECI supervisors and camp staff with other camp duties as needed. * Other activities and classes within the instructor's training and expertise. * Provide information about their major, their college, and WVU to youth participants. 2. Participate in ECI Training May 24-May 27, 2021. This is a mandatory in-person training held at WVU Jackson's Mill. 3. Have open availability in June-July, 2021. 4. Maintain effective communications with the 4-H ECI Supervisor. 5. Follow all guidelines and policies of the WVU Extension Service. 6. Exercise mature, professional judgment in assuming responsibility for and working with youth, both in-person and virtually. 7. Prepare and submit reports and conduct evaluations as requested by the Supervisor. 8. Travel to site and conduct needed activities on a timely basis. 9. Each ECI will be evaluated by their Supervisor. Individuals serving as 4-H Extension Camping Instructors must have: * A high school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of college (24 credit hours) * Must pass a criminal background check by May 21th in order to be hired * Must be at least 18 years * Can provide your own transportation to work and training * Have at least 1 year of College Education or Trade School (Must provide unofficial transcripts) * Have experience working with youth (as a volunteer or paid) * Have experience working in a summer camp setting * The ability to be energetic, enthusiastic, quick-thinking, adaptable, diplomatic and prompt * The ability to teach and motivate youth while nurturing positive self-esteem, decision-making skills, responsibility and leadership in youth * A sincere commitment to cooperating with others to further the educational purposes of the of the STEM curriculum * ECI's must be able to provide their own transportation. * Ability to pass a criminal background check Essential Functions: * Ability to deliver curriculum on a variety of topics; * Ability to communicate in written and verbal forms and work with youth and adult participants of differing age and skill levels; provide necessary instructions to youth; * Ability to observe youth behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and policies and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior management techniques; * Visual and auditory abilities to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to activities; * Ability to assist youth in emergencies (fire, evacuation, illness, injury); * Possess physical strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of youth and perform other assigned duties.
