Job Description

The Extension Agent, under general supervision, implements and plans educational programs and activities in assigned program areas. Supports and assists in the implementation of educational programs and activities in program areas for which other staff members have assigned leadership responsibilities. The areas of focus are small business development, business contracting, agribusiness development, community resources, business financing, home ownership, or community organization development. The work location for this position is 200 Taylor Street, Suite 500 Fort Worth, TX 76196 (Tarrant County).

Responsibilities:

  • Regularly delivers Community and Economic Development (CED) community-based educational programs through a wide variety of teaching methods at sites throughout the geographic area served.

  • Provides general assistance to entrepreneurs, small business owners, agri-businesses and land owners on financial resources, business planning, marketing, budgeting, efficient agri-business practices, and business development issues.

  • Plan and implement appropriate impact evaluations and reports to document program effectiveness.

  • Develops plans of work based on ongoing assessment of community needs.

  • Develops and follows a personal plan for professional development in the area of community resource development.

  • Works with county and regional economic development agencies to incorporate local county needs into economic development plans programs, and strategies.

  • Collaborates with non-profit community organizations, agencies, key stakeholders, civic groups, local governments, and other Extension staff in the region to provide a broad array of integrated and multicounty programs.

  • Collaborates with County Extension staff to present a unified and coordinated County Extension program effort.

  • Assist in the marketing and promotion of the Community and Economic Development Systems Unit by participating in internet radio blogs on various small business and community topics, mass media interviews (when appropriate), and participating in Extension publications on community and economic development topics.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • No prior experience required for positions that are not designated as an urban county. Positions for designated urban counties require three (3) years of related experience.

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Technical competence in appropriate subject matter and the ability to apply this knowledge to the solution of problems.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

CARC is an integral component of the 1890 land-grant mission in the State of Texas dedicated to delivering relevant, research-based educational programs designed to empower individuals to improve their quality of life and economic well-being. CARC encompasses all areas of research in the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences such as Animal Systems, Plant Systems, Food Systems, Natural Resource and Environmental Systems and Social Systems and Allied Research. The Associate/Full Professor and Executive Associate Director for CARC is responsible for the strategic direction, oversight, operation and coordination of all research activities as outlined in the approved NIFA Plan of Work. Candidates must be tenure eligible and qualify for a rank of Associate or Full Professor. Responsibilities: * Serves as the chief operating officer for the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center (CARC) to ensure the implementation of the NIFA Plan of Work . * Builds and further develops interworking relationships with Extension and Research employees to ensure relevance, impact, and alignment with stakeholder needs. * Provides management, oversight and direction of the daily operations of the Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) Farm and ensures that the farm is in compliance with the College, University, System and Federal policies. Supervises the farm manager. * Provides transformative leadership, focus, an entrepreneurial spirit and strategic initiatives that direct CARC and the farm into the future through progressive, positive change, * Coordinates with the Dean and Director of Land Grant Programs in planning and implementation of integrated research and outreach programs to meet NIFA objectives. * Represents the organization at national, state, TAMUS, and local functions as required and approved. * Coordinates, supports and encourages cost-effective strategies/methods for professional development of all faculty and staff. * Conducts annual performance evaluations for CARC support staff and makes recommendations for improvement or changes as warranted * Interacts closely with the Associate Dean for Academics, Executive Associate Director for the Cooperative Extension Program, and the PVAMU Office of Research. * Assists the Dean and Director in developing and monitoring research budgets for Evans-Allen capacity funding and for externally-funded research projects. * Promotes the use of digital and other future-oriented technology in the delivery of programs and for farm management * Initiates and fosters effective relationships, partnerships, collaboration and agreements with academic and other units within the University that have complementary vision, missions and goals to advance the tripartite land-grant mission. * Performs other duties as assigned.
