General Summary:
Explosives/UXO Safety Instructor

Temporary/Casual Position
Bryan, Texas
$50.00/hour
The Instructor demonstrates and instructs students proper explosives range safety and explosive handling procedures. Applies demonstrated explosives knowledge and techniques to assigned students during field (demolition) exercises. Required to supervise and evaluate student performance as well as competently discuss explosive handling safety procedures, UXO procedures and regulations. Demonstrates and instructs students on how to properly assemble and construct demolition materials, charges, and apply all standard explosive safety measures.
This position reports to the Agency Training Coordinator.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Four years of military EOD or Public Safety Bomb Tech experience.
One year of adult education/and or training.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Must have a valid motor vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
EOD Technician Certificate or HDS graduate.
Certified instructor.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ten years military EOD or Public Safety Bomb Tech experience.
Three years of adult education and or training.
Senior EOD/HDS Bomb Technician.
Explosive breacher qualified.
OSHA HAZWOPER or HAZMAT Level A Certification.
Physical Requirements:
Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, movement of light, moderate, and or heavy tools and ordnance, and bending/crawling on the ground.
Must be able to manipulate explosives range tools, metal detectors and other ordnance related equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of explosives, explosive components, explosive theory.
Ability to facilitate course content and demonstrate all explosive safety procedures.
Ability to effectively communicate.
Ability to interact with clients and staff positively and professionally.
Knowledge of basic office software and instructional programs.
Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups.
Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies.
Ability to comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning.
Equipment:
Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
Hand/power tools.
Remote Firing Devices.
Notifications:
This position is security sensitive.
This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.
Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:
Classroom and Demolition Range Preparation
Prepares demolition range as required to support training.
Reviews IG to prepare for course delivery.
Reviews Power Point for accuracy and correct content.
Ensures all required classroom materials are available prior to class.
Arrives one hour before the course is scheduled to begin to ensure the room is set up and to greet arriving participants.
Instruction
Follows approved curriculum course outline and timelines.
Performs all course exercises as explained by Instructor Guide.
Ensures all participants have achieved the terminal objectives of the course.
Note curriculum or slide deficiencies.
After Action Meetings
Notes any improvements.
Attends hot wash post-delivery.
Provides improvements for training coordinator.
