Composes and reviews hazard analyses, technical reports, and standard operating procedures. The ERC composes, reviews, and executes test plans. ERC must be follow stringent procedures, solve typical operating problems, and make usual adjustments required for a variety of frequently repeated testing assignments. ERC will use knowledge of hazardous materials and explosives to prepare test items. ERC must understand the hazards involved in handling and processing a variety of materials. ERC conducts mixing and synthesis operations involving homemade explosives. ERC will frequently handle, move, and lift test items or testing devices. The ERC interfaces with engineering, safety, regulatory, and law enforcement staff to provide analytical data and technical input in support of the development or improvement of laboratory, test, and classification processes. The ERC conducts literature reviews, analyses, and composes reports to support the classification of explosives.

The ERC performs explosive testing including but not limited to: BAM and/or ABL Friction Tests, Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Testing, and Impact Test. The ERC performs in other associated functional areas including burn time, delay time, thermal stability, UN Gap Test, Vented Pipe Test, etc. The ERC must be follow stringent procedures, solve typical operating problems, and make usual adjustments required for a variety of frequently repeated testing assignments. The ERC will use knowledge of explosives to prepare test items, for example, using laboratory scales and calibrated presses to prepare samples of explosive to exact weight and density. The ERC must understand the hazards involved in handling and processing explosives. The ERC will frequently lift test items or testing devices. The work requires long periods of standing and walking. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. The ERC will be subject to noise and fumes from test operations and are exposed to the possibility of explosion or burning of items which are experimental, defective, or operating at the limits of their capability. The ERC will wear protective clothing such as electrostatic discharge clothing and shoes or other safety equipment as required.
