Department Overview

The Load Management Solutions (LMS) organization provides integrated energy solutions that help business and residential customers save energy and money.

The PG&E Energy Efficiency (EE) team focuses on inspiring and empowering our customers to eliminate unnecessary energy use, reduce their carbon footprint, and save money. As one of the nation's largest energy efficiency portfolios, EE is helping to transform markets, set building codes and appliance standards, and be the marker by which all other utilities are measured.

Within the EE team, the Quality Control and Communications (QC&C) team ensures EE program data quality, facilitates process improvements and documentation, maintains relationships with regulators at the CPUC, and supports communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Position Summary

Location will be determined by the hiring leader and successful candidate.

This expert engineer position is in the Deemed Platform Quality Control Team that provides support for our LMS clients. This position provides technical support across many technologies and maintaining a strong familiarity with CPUC guidance to support our different programs in the residential and non-residential rebate programs. In addition, this position will provide technical support for Third Party and Government Partnership Rebates and Core Retrofit Incentive Programs. Specific duties may change in response to LMS product needs. This position requires a high level of attention to detail as well as an intense focus on client and customer satisfaction. Success is measured by client satisfaction surveys, metrics of productivity, and ultimately by progress toward EE meeting its goals to help customers save energy while maintaining the highest achievable levels of customer satisfaction.

Skills: The successful candidate must demonstrate strong quantitative, analytical, communication, technical, and project management skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate accountability and a dedication to collaborative problem solving that conform with CPUC guidance and program rules.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. We would not anticipate that the individual hired into this role would land at or near the top half of the range described below, but the decision will be dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $122,000.00

Bay Area Maximum: $194,000.00

&/OR

California Minimum: $116,000.00

California Maximum: $184,000.00

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

Job Responsibilities

Measure Package Development

  • Prepare technical review, development, revision, and maintenance of Deemed Program measure packages and associated databases.

  • Utilize the California eTRM to create and maintain measure packages.

  • Lead meetings with the CPUC Energy Division regarding measure package development and process improvement activities.

  • Provide engineering assessments of new products and/or technologies which may have the potential to produce energy savings for PG&E customers, and assist Emerging Technologies group with technical assessment projects to determine the energy savings potential of new energy efficient technologies.

IT System Updates

  • Lead system changes required by CPUC decisions that is related to measure packages and claims, which requires extensive knowledge of eTRM, Energy Insight, and CEDARS.

Process Improvement Efforts

  • Participate and advocate for statewide improvements.

  • Documentation of processes and create improvements to eliminate waste.

  • Lead changes for Deemed around the metric of Total System Benefit.

Communication

  • Lead communication related to Deemed changes and the end of year webinar for Program Managers and Third Parties.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Job-related experience, 6 years

  • Professional Engineer License

  • Valid California driver's license

Desired:

  • Knowledge of building design practice and building systems such as HVAC, lighting, refrigeration systems, and building envelope

  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Strong focus on client and customer satisfaction

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; good presentation skills

  • Experience with energy efficiency technologies including commercial and industrial lighting, HVAC equipment, central plant heating, cooling and distribution systems and controls and building energy management systems.

  • Experience with energy savings calculations for nonresidential retrofit projects, new construction projects and demand response projects, Title 24 and Title 20 standards;

  • Experience with EnergyPlus, Modelkit, and Github

  • MS in Engineering

  • Work experience in utility energy efficiency program M&V/project review/project evaluation

  • Strong familiarity with CPUC requirements for Energy Efficiency, including methods for determining industry standard practice, influence, baselines, measure type, and technology eligibility

  • Strong familiarity with industrial processes, such as high efficiency chillers, boilers, fans/motors, processing equipment

  • Successful track record interacting with CPUC staff and utility program staff

  • Excellent communicator-able to remain calm and respectful in contentious situations

  • Strong Collaborator and problem solver that seeks win-win solutions

  • Successful track record working with diverse stakeholders

  • Presented technical topics to a large audience

  • Experience in program languages in VB, Python, R, Excel Macros
