Position Summary:

Join our Visual Communications Studio as an Experiential Graphic Designer who works with clients from around the world to express their story in 2 & 3 dimensional media and spaces through experiential design, brand design, signage, and wayfinding. We are seeking an experienced, innovative individual, who can champion visual communications projects from concept to completion with passion, creativity, and attention-to-detail across a broad spectrum of building types. The EGD is responsible for all aspects of signage design, including wayfinding systems, sign location plans, message schedules, and signage drawings as well as brand implementation and environmental graphics. Candidate must be able to work under quick deadlines and lead client project meetings with professionalism and enthusiasm. As part of our integrated design teams, you will be responsible for developing projects that elevate the human experience through design.

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop wayfinding and signage projects from start to finish, including analysis and development of wayfinding strategies, sign location plans and message schedules, sign design concepts, schematic designs, design intent packages, and signage guidelines.

  • Work with clients to develop specific graphic and user-oriented strategies for visual communication within a built environment, including corporate identity systems, environmental graphics programs, and consumer environments.

  • Collaborate with the visual communications studio to support projects in planning, master planning, urban design, pedestrian movement, and user experience within the built environment.

  • Assist in development of construction documents, procurement support, and fabrication for wayfinding/signage projects.

  • Assist in the development of new brands and conveying the identity in imaginative and compelling ways.

  • Coordinate design and delivery with clients, architects, engineers, and other design team members.

  • Work collaboratively within a planning and design framework, take direction from the team leaders, and develop high quality, client-ready deliverables within tight schedules and budgets.

  • Provide clear and concise written, verbal, and visual communications to client, design team, stakeholders, suppliers, and vendors.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience in graphic design, experiential graphic design, specification and production.

  • Strong work ethic, with demonstrated efficiency, flexibility, and a positive spirit.

  • Experience with material, color, typography, and font specifications.

  • Knowledge about products, production methods, fabrication, and installation.

  • Experience with budget management.

  • Ability to travel on short notice via air or ground trips locally and nationally to client meetings (travel estimate, up to 25%).

  • Degree in architecture, industrial design, experiential graphic design, graphic design or similar program.

  • High level of proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat), and MS Office required.

  • Provide a portfolio of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Member of/or involvement with SEGD and/or AIGA.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of SketchUp, Revit, or Rhino.

The designer will work closely with the Design Director and graphics team and is also responsible for supporting KIRO 7 in a highly professional matter. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. GENERAL: 1.To produce still and motion graphics of quality and distinction that successfully communicate the message desired by the News and Creative Services Departments. 2.To support KIRO-TV in a highly professional manner. SPECIFIC: 1.To develop concepts, ideas and execute final artwork and animations for news, promotion, programming, sales and digital team. 2.To have user/playback knowledge of all crucial systems used in the graphics area including Macs and PCs, programs including The Adobe CC suite of Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and associated programs within the suite. Additional skills in Vizrt Curious Maps, Cinema 4D, ChyronHego Lyric, and knowledge of automation with tickers is also needed. Daily/weekly maintenance of the graphics library is also expected. 3.To maintain quality control checks, including but not limited to, spelling, organization of information, clear and easy to understand presentation of graphics for daily newscasts. 4.To prioritize and execute daily graphic workload. 5.Strong collaboration with news managers, producers and reporters, in order to assess their needs to deliver what is expected. 6.To help develop the design and coordination of pre-production and/or animation; make suggestions, provide source and digital files, consult with director (if needed) before production, and ensure that the finished work is delivered to the final destination. 7.Great teamwork collaboration within Creative Services on all projects for station marketing in both design and promotion. 8.Excellent communication skills with all KIRO 7 employees in a professional and helpful manner. 9.Help create digital elements needed for kiro7.com and/or clients we serve if needed. 10.Will knowingly work a schedule that will include occasional daypart shift changes to help fill in for vacations, and/or on-call shifts as needed for graphics support. 11.Excellent communication skills with all KIRO employees in a professional and helpful manner. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: * 5 years news graphics design experience preferred. * Knowledge of print design and production helpful. * Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts or equivalent. * Minimum 2 year Associates Degree. REASONING ABILITY: * Ability to work well with others. * Exhibit a positive attitude towards work and company policies, and at all times, encourages a positive and cooperative work environment.
