POSITION SUMMARY:

The acute-care or primary care Nurse Practitioner provides direct care functions including, but not limited to history and physical

exams, daily rounds or appointments, ordering medications and lab testing, discharge or home care planning as appropriate, and

education of the patient and family. The roles of expert practitioner change agent, consultant, educator/innovator and liaison are

fulfilled in these functions.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

Current New York State RN license; experience in pertinent areas of nursing practice, graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner

program, Master's Degree in Nursing preferred, clinical affiliate of medical staff, National certification as Nurse Practitioner or active

pursuit within one year.

Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of

expertise.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Exam equipment pertinent to practice area, advanced skills in health history taking and physical assessment, skills in evaluating

laboratory data, EKG and CXR interpretation, skills in assessing, planning and implementing a plan of care for specific patients and

families, while collaborating with nursing staff, physicians and ancillary staff, practice protocols as designated in agreement with

supervising/collaborating physician.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

Clinical setting - Exposure Class I -routine or potential exposure to blood, body fluids, excretions or secretions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Medium work - must be able to lift, bend, stoop, push and pull.

WORK CONTACT GROUP:

All services, employees, medical staff, patients, visitors, vendors and various regulatory and professional agencies.

Medical Director/Supervising and Collaborating Physician.

committees, and interacts with other staff members as appropriate.

  • Provides formal and/or informal in-services to nursing staff as appropriate.

  • Participates in active patient teaching relevant to patient's concerns/diagnoses

including but not limited to preventative health maintenance issues.

  • Understands and conceptualized the role of the Nurse Practitioner while

demonstrating an ability to inform the public and hospital staff regarding the role.

  • Acts as a liaison between patient, hospital staff, physician and between

nursing staff and physician.

  • Exhibits a commitment to teamwork.

  • Adheres to hospital confidentiality statement.

Researcher:

  • Participates in Performance Improvement and Monitoring.

  • Applies current concepts and findings from research and/or studies to practice.
