We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Accountant to work within our Fixed Assets Accounting team located in San Diego, Ca. Under general direction, this position is responsible for general accounting functions including preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules and ledgers and account reconciliations. Prepares financial statements and analyzes and interpret reports and records for management. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors, trends, root causes, and conclusions. Identifies areas of procedural and financial risk, brings them to management's attention in a timely manner, and provides possible solutions for mitigating the risk.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researches and resolves significant and / or non-routine accounting transactions.

  • Researches accounting issues and prepares accounting position memos to justify Company's accounting treatment.

  • Interfaces with external auditors and providing technical accounting support with respect to the interim reviews and year-end audits.

  • Prepares and maintains monthly account reconciliations and journal entries.

  • Performs monthly balance sheet and income statement fluctuation and variance analysis.

  • Prepares monthly financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for internal and external users.

  • Ensures proper documentation in accordance with internal and/or external requirements.

  • Prepares timely and reliable periodic summaries of accounting records and data, including trend analysis and identification of causal factors.

  • Assists with implementing and maintaining internal accounting controls and procedures.

  • Supports month-end and year-end close process.

  • Identifies and promotes improvements in work efficiency and accuracy.

  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, finance or related discipline along with six or more years of progressive experience in accounting with a bachelor's degree or four or more years of experience with a master's degree. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.

  • Must have a solid experience in preparation of financial statements and an excellent knowledge on financial reporting requirements in accordance with US GAAP.

  • Must demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of US GAAP, combined with the ability to research and propose company's accounting positions.

  • Must possess leadership skills including organizing, scheduling, and coordinating work assignments to meet project milestones or established completion dates.

  • Must be customer focused and possess: (1) strong technical and analytical skills; (2) the ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data and develop solutions to a variety of complex problems; (3) excellent verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings; (4) excellent interpersonal skills to influence and guide all levels of employees, including management; (5) the ability to represent the company as a knowledgeable resource on external projects.

  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours.

  • CPA designation preferred.

  • At least 3 years in public accounting experience is preferred.

  • Prior experience in the aerospace/defense industry is preferred.

  • Experience with SAP is highly desirable.
