Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
To assist and support the clinical staff and providers in the provision of patient care. The incumbent functions as a receptionist and in a clerical role for the majority of the time. Coding of procedures is another potential responsibly of this position after proficiency of the basic job function has been accomplished.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
Work may occasionally require travel to other Carle Health facilities/hospitals.
Required to drive your own vehicle for business purposes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Functions as department receptionist, creating a welcoming environment.
Greets patients, visitors, providers, vendors and others with a warm, positive attitude
Identifies patient in accordance with the National Patient Safety Goals.
Actively participates in patient handoff to the prep areas by passing on pertinent patient information/concerns
Keeps personal conversations and phone calls to a minimum
Maintains patient confidentially through appropriate level of voice
Maintains neat and organized front desk
Ensures front waiting area is fee of clutter and maintained for patient safety
Uses professional etiquette and answers telephones promptly
Takes complete and accurate messages, relays information promptly
Keeps patients and families informed of delays or untimeliness of care.
Demonstrates effective communication skills to promote smooth patient flow through the department
Informs nurse of patient cancellations and request stop add-on patients promptly.
Performs clerical functions with accuracy and promptness.
Assembles all necessary paperwork for the patient's chart.
Utilizes legible handwriting to eliminate errors
Creates accurate patient consent forms on the computer with proper spelling, correct provider, procedure name and patient name
Notifies supply order technician of need for additional supplies.
Maintains competency in computer system and software programs utilized and seeks opportunities for growth development.
Maintains knowledge of patient scheduling programs
Maintains knowledge of patient care computer programs
Attends computer classes as needed or scheduled
Acts as resource person to the staff members including clinical staff regarding operations of the front desk
Maintains adequate knowledge of medical terminology
Participates in activities to improve performance in the department and enhance customer satisfaction.
Enters procedure statistics into database program in an accurate and timely manner.
Attends staff meetings and department in services regularly
Actively participates in approaches to improve patient satisfaction and maintains patient confidentiality
Participates on a department task team.
