Teacher - Health Education Coordinator

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Licensed and appointed Health Education or other subject certified teacher. Current Office of School Wellness Programs staff member or Superintendent Team member.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

• At least three (3) years of satisfactory experience within NYCDOE.

• Proficient understanding of NYS and National Health Education Standards and National Sex Education Standards.

• Experience using and developing resources that align to the NYC Health Education Scope and Sequence.

• Experience in developing comprehensive Health Education programs based on NYCDOE recommended curricula including HealthSmart, Reducing the Risk, and/or Growing Up and Staying Safe.

• Experience in designing and delivering teacher professional learning sessions in a variety of modalities (remote, in-person and/or hybrid).

• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and/or Excel.

• Priority given to current and former Office of School Wellness Programs staff.

Plus:

• Experience modifying instruction for students in special populations (e.g., Students with disabilities, multiple language learners)
• Knowledge of professional learning communities (PLCs) and adult learning principles.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Update middle and high school Health Education pacing guides with recommended resources.

• Develop and update additional health education resources for teachers related to the updated National Health Education Standards and/or culturally responsive instruction in Health Education.

• Plan and design 2024-25 Health Education professional learning opportunities and Online Professional Learning Communities (OPLCs).

• Create plans and identify resources for 2024-25 Health Education initiatives.

• Research and review Health Education curricula and resources.

• Support updating Wellness Hub apps including Event Manager and Support Center.

• Support in creating, editing, and updating instructional resources on NYCPS websites and platforms (e.g. WeTeachNYC, WeLearnNYC, TeachHub, etc.).

• Additional responsibilities as needed.

WORK SCHEDULE:

• July 12 - October 2024

• Approximately 120 hours available per person, but not limited to that amount. Additional hours granted upon the approval of the hiring manager.

• Specific hours and schedule are not guaranteed. Schedule to be determined and will remain subject to change based on project and funding ability.

Hours up to, but not limited to the approximate number of hours listed. Additional hours may be granted upon the approval of the hiring manager.

SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
