JOB SUMMARY

Under the guidance of the Director and in collaboration with the Program Grant Manager for Health, Social Services and Expanded Learning Programs, the Program Leader will assist with the implementation of the expanded learning/enrichment activities that support RLA's after school program. The Program Leader is responsible for the implementation of the CDE Quality Standards for Expanded Learning to improve student learning in the before school or after school programs. The Program Leader will assist to maintain a safe and orderly environment for students, ensuring a high level of program quality and working to establish a positive relationship with all students and their families. The program leader will be in responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising student activities under their specific grade/enrichment area.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and Application of:

Effective child development experience and dual-language instruction knowledge (Spanish/English), school and district policies and procedures as they apply; Oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish; Record keeping techniques; interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy; Child growth and development principles; applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws.

ESSENTION FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise students in a variety of school-related settings applying health and safety policies.

  • Implement positive discipline techniques, group management strategies and social emotional learning to encourage positive participation of all students in daily activities and events.

  • Lead organized learning activities for students to have a variety of enriching and age-appropriate to develop and strengthen students' academic, physical, and social skills.

  • Assist in planning and implementing suitable learning experiences and learning environment for students and in various areas of instruction.

  • Supervise and/or participate in playground activities, lunch activities, bus loading and unloading, fieldtrips, as needed.

  • Maintain student attendance and participation records, including information of a confidential nature; maintain confidentiality of information and records.

  • Support the school's core academic program by assisting students with academic support (homework).

  • Differentiate lessons and activities as needed, so they are appropriate for students of various ages and with various abilities and implement individual educational plans and integrate modifications and accommodations.

  • Assist in setting up, monitoring, and cleaning up expanded learning program facilities.

  • Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events and instruct students on the safe and proper use of supplies and equipment.

  • Report observations and incident reports (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) to site coordinator/supervisor.

  • Interact professionally and appropriately with children, parents, teachers, school staff, community members, and co-workers.

  • Comply with special schedule changes and off-site events including field trips as assigned by the site coordinator.

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, required trainings, professional development, and other RLA events that are grade specific including school events (Fam. Literacy & Math Night, etc.).

  • Maintain confidentiality of school information related to RLA students, families, community members, and staff.

  • Knowledge is required to perform basic communication skills (English/Spanish) (i.e. speak clearly; understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions).

  • Physical ability is required including strength, mobility, stamina to climb, bend, stretch, stand, kneel, walk, extend legs, and stamina to lift, carry, push or pull objects.

  • Complete position-related clerical tasks and communicate effectively with families.

  • Perform a wide variety of specialized and responsible work; work independently; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate.

  • Perform related duties as assigned by the RLA Director/Program Manager.

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or GED required

  • AA Degree or Verifiable Two (2) years post-secondary education required/in-progress.

  • Must meet federal, state and local competency requirements

EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D required.

  • Advanced education/coursework and/or training in the implementation of instructional methodologies, child development, student assessment, etc. desirable.

  • One (1) year experience in providing various methods of instruction in an educational environment desirable or experience working with children/school setting.

  • Bilingual Skills (Spanish) highly desirable.
