Light Work/Community Darkrooms, a nationally recognized, artist-run photography and digital imaging center at Syracuse University, seeks a full-time Exhibitions Coordinator.

The Exhibitions Coordinator works closely with curators and artists to prepare and install all exhibitions and to manage Light Work's permanent collection, and an online collection database. We are looking for a skilled art handler with experience in all phases of gallery preparation and installation and familiarity with collection management who can work independently and as part of a dynamic team. Successful candidates will be detail-oriented, have an excellent sense of physical design, and have a passion for fine art photography. Candidate should have a Bachelors degree in Fine Art, Photography, Art Education, or Art History and/or equivalent experience in Arts Administration. Candidates should also have demonstrated experience preparing and installing art exhibitions, and computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Photoshop, and InDesign.

  • Bachelors degree in Fine Art, Photography, Art Education or Art History and/or equivalent experience in Arts Administration required.

Job Specific Qualifications

  • Participating effectively as a member of a cross-functional team and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with Light Work staff, volunteers, the general public, as well as representatives from other organizations.

  • Working independently, with ability to lift and move heavy objects as required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and installing 12-15 major exhibitions per year in four different locations on campus and scheduling related lectures or events.

  • Packing, unpacking, and shipping art work and keeping related supplies on hand.

  • Training and managing a staff of work study students and interns to assist in installations and provide support to the administrative staff.

  • Preparing and installing labels and didactic wall text.

  • Coordinating and scheduling the painting of gallery walls, electrical repairs, and other facility requirements.

  • Preparing, matting, framing, and shipping of limited edition prints and signed books for Light Work's Subscription Program.

  • Maintaining Light Work's cross platform web store with inventory tracking.

  • Management and customers / customer service request related to Print Program / Online ship.

  • Add new products/sync with WooCommerce.

  • Process CS/post card mailing lists.

  • Run various reports as needed .

  • Create mail merge for letters, labels, etc.

  • Update addresses, find and merge duplicate contacts.

  • Verify that orders have synced accurately from WooCommerce.

  • Enter/process paper orders (Ebsco, subscription brochures).

  • Monitor for errors in order processing, dashboard report totals.

  • Add grant winners/AIRs (mark as winner, add membership).

  • Update source code for AIR¿s after collection donation.

  • Overseeing the Light Work Collection of over 3,000 photographs, including loans to institutions and accessioning 50-75 new acquisitions annually.

  • Managing the online Light Work Collection database information.

  • Organizing the Light Work Collection storage spaces, keeping records of temperature and relative humidity to ensure optimal storage.

  • Providing administrative support to the Director and Associate Director.
