Job Summary

Performs and maintains exercise prescriptions, and conducts patient exercise therapy and relaxation sessions as specified. Notifies the leader of changes in the patient's condition, performance and response to treatment. Works closely with other disciplines and specialties within the department and facility as well as patients and families to assure a cohesive approach to patient care.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates conduction of pharmacologicaland physiological stress tests following the standards and guidelines of the ACSM/AHA/ACC and current policies and procedures of Diagnostic Cardiology.

  • Coordinates and performs a variety of diagnostic procedures with the cardiology service line to obtain patient data for use in the diagnosis of cardiovasculardisease while following established departmental policies and hospital standards.

  • Assess patients immediate needs upon arrival to the Diagnostic Cardiology department. Researches the patients record for physician order, laboratory results and current history and physical.

    Explains and clarifies purpose, established procedures and possible side effects of diagnostic cardiology procedures to patient. Identifies the patient with two forms of identification.

  • Explains, clarifies purpose, established procedures and possible side effects of diagnostic cardiology procedures to the patient.

  • Understands the bodys cardiovascular response to exercise and abnormalities that can occur.

  • Recognizes electrocardiographic changes and arrhythmias to acquire adequate diagnostic information safely.

  • Notifies supervising physician of abnormal findings outlined in the policy and procedure prior to, during and after the diagnostic test.

  • Documents all significant information on appropriate patient record. Documents assessments (pre-procedure and throughout), vital signs and complications during procedures. Administration of medicines given during test.

  • Responds to stressful and emergency situations in a prompt manner.

Physical Requirements

Hearing (corrected) adequate for oral/aural communication with patients, staff, family, visitors, etc. Vision (corrected) adequate for reading.

Intelligible speech and adequate language/cognitive sills to perform job duties. Must be able to push patients in a wheelchair or stretcher. Lifting of patients, equipment or supplies will be required up to 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.

Able to laterally transfer patients 100 pounds rarely. Sitting, standing, and walking required throughout the day. Job duties sometimes require climbing stairs, kneeling, twisting, bending; on occasion, crouching, crawling and reaching overhead.

Must be able to transfer patients. Must be able to demonstrate any appropriate exercise and activities to patients/caregivers. Work is in a fast-paced clinical environments. The work environment is primarily indoors but occasionally outdoors.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Bachelor Degree in a Health/Fitness field required. Masters Degree preferred.

Exercise Specialist certified by the American College of Sports Medicine or eligible to test for the same. ACSM Exercise Specialist preferred. ACLS preferred.

If not current, ACLS certification must be completed within six months from date of hire. Experience in exercise programming for healthy and diseased populations, group and individual instruction, exercise prescription, and counseling on healthy lifestyles. Minimum 2 years appropriate experience preferred. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required.RCEP or CEP registry from ACSM.Experience in 12 lead ECG and Stress testing preferred.

Provides patient care appropriate for a working environment that utilizes magnetic fields. Manages the application of MR contrast agents. Essential Functions * Determines how the selection of parameters and options affects image quality. * Processes MRI data, including the development and implementation of new procedures. * Monitors computers, injector systems, patient care monitors, and other related equipment. * Maintains venipuncture technique and patient care skills appropriate for administration of MRI contrast materials. * Obtains medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast materials as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist, or registered nurse. * Establishes a self-study program that maintains knowledge of state-of-the-art technology and meets ARRT or NCSRT CME requirements. * Works closely with the area supervisor in providing procedural updates or recommendations. Physical Requirements Requires frequent stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, and kneeling in performing diagnostic procedures. Lifting, pushing, pulling and gripping may be required for positioning patients and maneuvering equipment. Vision and hearing for distances of at least 20 feet is necessary. Significant walking will be required, as approximately 60% of work time will be standing. 40% work time will be operating computers and equipment requiring significant manual dexterity and use of the hands. Communication skills, both oral and written are essential components to job performance. All procedures or other job-related tasks involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, tissues, or other potential spills or splashes. Use of appropriate protective measures are required. Education, Experience and Certifications High School Diploma or GED and completion of a formal, AMA approved Radiologic Technology or Nuclear Medicine program required. Registry with either the NMTCB, ARRT (N), or ARRT (R) required. MRI experience preferred; Formal MRI training a significant benefit; Advanced Registry in MRI beneficial.
