Concordia University invites applicants to the full-time faculty position of Exercise Science for the Department of Health and Human Performance located at the Ann Arbor Campus. The Department of Health and Human Performance at Concordia University Ann Arbor is recruiting a full time Exercise Science faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. This 12-month position is located in Ann Arbor, MI. The Assistant/Associate Professor of Exercise Science is directly responsible to the Chair of the Department of Health and Human Performance and the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Teach designated courses within the undergraduate Exercise Science program and possibly the graduate Athletic Training Education Program

  • Courses taught will be dependent upon the strengths of the candidate and the needs of the program

  • Potentially advise / help with master's degree research projects

  • Serve as an academic advisor to students in the Exercise Science Program

  • Assist with the management of the programs as directed by the Chair of the Department of Health and Human Performance

  • Provide service to the university in the form of participation on faculty committees and other activities at the department and university level

  • Develop an active line of academic research

  • Maintain professional conduct at all times

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Master's degree (or Doctoral degree) in Exercise Science or related field with expectation of completing terminal degree in future.

  • University teaching experience preferred

  • Certification through the NSCA, ACSM, NATABOC or other organization is preferred

  • Excellent organizational abilities and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to work within a Christian environment

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, faculty, exempt position Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience. This is a full-time faculty position that reports to the report to the Dean of the School of Health Professions. The anticipated start date is January 2020. Duties, Expectations, and Responsibilities * Teaching responsibilities may include: basic statistics, evidence-based practice, human anatomy and/or basic neuroscience for occupational and physical therapists; specific teaching assignments will be based on qualifications and experience. * Plan and schedule rehabilitation science courses for the Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science (BSRS), pre-OT, pre-PT, and Master of Science in Rehabilitation Science (MSRS) programs * Plan and schedule undergraduate courses for bridge programs (COTA to MOT and PTA to DPT) * Plan and schedule CUW courses for the joint Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science program with Tianhua College in Shanghai, China * Oversee student recruitment efforts; manage student admission review process * Recruit, maintain, and monitor enrollment; meet with prospective students * Develop and maintain rehabilitation science program policies through a current Student Handbook * Maintain curricular documents related to both rehabilitation science programs (catalog, manual, handbook, website, brochures) * Manage academic disciplinary actions such as student reviews, grade appeals, and special petitions * Supervise, mentor, and support rehabilitation science faculty; complete annual evaluations * Participate on the School of Health Professions leadership team * Develop and monitor the Rehabilitation Science department annual budget * Complete program assessment and update curriculum and student learning outcomes as needed * Travel internationally for up to 2 weeks at a time to countries such as China, Saudia Arabia, India, etc. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office * Ability to work with a diverse student population * Understanding of the intersections of physical rehabilitation practice and Christianity * Ability to work independently, and as an effective team member and leader * Ability to handle multiple priorities * Knowledge and skills in program, faculty, and student development based on university guidelines * Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with faculty * Proven leadership and administrative skills (including assessment) * Demonstrate ability to establish a learning environment that is student-centered, promotes high standards, and is responsive to student issues * Ability to develop and maintain effective and constructive relationships with aligned departments, faculty, CUW administration, and in the community Education and/or Training * The preferred candidate will be a licensed occupational or physical therapist. A doctoral degree with five years practice and five years of full-time teaching experience with some international experience is required. Additional qualifications include record of accomplishment in scholarship, teaching, and service, and eligibility for academic appointment at the rank of associate professor or above.
