Summary: The exercise physiologist works in conjunction with the other Cardiac Rehabilitation team members to provide an individualized program tailored to each patient's particular needs. Assists in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in all aspects of the out-patient Cardiac Rehabilitation/Prevention program as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities:

1.Completes initial assessment plans according to the sections policy and procedure and reviews patients present medical status, assesses coronary risks factors, leisure time, work related activities and socioeconomic factors.

2.Plans tailored exercise program and individual goals and within the physical limitation imposed by the disease and reviews exercise stress test and in conjunction with Medical Director and nurse, formulates individual activity and exercise prescription according to condition and established protocols for each patient.

3.Plans tailored exercise program and individual goals and within the physical limitation imposed by the disease.

4.Plans and implements new programs in exercise and fitness and assist in writing policy on the program.

5.Delivers plan of care based on physician's orders, the patient's care plan and the section's policy and procedures and instructs patients and family regarding disease process, risk factor modification, treatment plan and follow up from out-patient programs.

6.Delivers plan of care based on physician's orders, the patient's care plan and the section's policy and procedures.

7.Consults with the Medical Director and nurse when appropriate to change or modify target heart rate or exercise treatment plan.

8.Evaluates and documents out-patient response to treatment, exercise instruction, increase workload (RPE & THR) and counseling according to the section's policy and procedure. Evaluates effectiveness of exercise plan and updates accordingly.

9.Assists in the evaluation of the multidisciplinary teams adherence by routine monitoring of quality improvement indicators and revises indicator accordingly. Maintains established program policies and procedures regarding safety, environmental and infection control.

  3. Assists in the evaluation of the multidisciplinary teams adherence by routine monitoring of quality improvement indicators and revises indicator accordingly. Participates in emergency training and procedures.

  4. Serves as a hospital and community resource person in the area of Cardiac rehabilitation and assists in developing educational material to be distributed as supplemental educational tools.

  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

  6. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.


Required:

Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from an accredited program in Exercise Science or Bachelor's degree with a Master's degree in Exercise Science. Basic Life Support required. Working knowledge ECG's and arrhythmia recognition. Excellent communication skills.

Minimum Experience: zero to six months

Desired: Cardiac Rehabilitation experience preferred. Certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as an Exercise Specialist preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification preferred. Good knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology particularly of ischemic heart disease. Knowledge in cardiovascular exercise, exercise physiology and cardiac rehabilitation are critical good judgement, ability to follow-up and complete projects and high energy level are necessary. An understanding of adult learning methods and psychological intervention is helpful.

Salary Range: $24.9186 - $46.2774 hourly, commensurate with experience
