General Description of Work

Whatcom Community College welcomes applications for a Project Manager, Cybersecurity Grants. The Project Manager for Cybersecurity Grants supports cybersecurity grants awarded to Whatcom Community College as well as the National Cybersecurity Training & Education Center (NCyTE) and the CAE Candidates National Center (CCNC). The Project Manager will collaborate with other Center staff and support the Centers' Director /Principal Investigator (PI) and grant Co-PIs in carrying out the mission, objectives and activities grant projects. Specifically, this position will help strategize, manage and implement cybersecurity grant projects and activities related to the Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE), educational resource development and dissemination, faculty/institution development, student development and industry engagement. WCC's cybersecurity grants are primarily funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Security Agency, and projects are aligned to and support numerous initiatives that are national in scope.

Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to:

  • Develop knowledge of, oversee and implement projects associated with grant and center objectives.

  • Manage projects, communicate and coordinate with stakeholders, contractors, collaborators and participants.

  • Implement, track progress, ensure deliverables, develop and manage budgets and update and ensure data accuracy.

  • Serve as the main point of contact for projects.

  • Communicate about project progress and recommend improvements in a constructive manner to Center (NCyTE & CCNC) leaders/administrators.

  • Plan, implement, travel to, facilitate and conduct project meetings or workshops in collaboration with other Center staff.

  • Collaborate on and ensure all needed marketing and communications related to the project with other NCyTE staff.

  • Participate in and contribute constructively to Center staff and project meetings.

  • Provide necessary information and documentation for all project reporting in a timely manner and assist with draft report development.

  • Communicate effectively and pro-actively using Outlook, telephone, email and other means to all appropriate internal and external parties and participants regarding event details, plans and related efforts.

  • This position is on the "front line" in achieving grant goals of superior product quality, exceptional experience, and customer satisfaction.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or associates degree plus three years experience coordinating or managing projects.

  • Three years experience in an academic or office setting in project management or related work.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills (both oral and written).

  • Ability to present information clearly and logically in a public setting and to supervisors.

  • Experience working collaboratively with contacts in remote settings and with a variety of project partners.

  • Ability to work under and meet aggressive deadlines and to juggle multiple event timelines and related tasks on different timelines.

  • Experience managing complex and/or multiple projects.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and virtual meeting platforms (Teams and Zoom).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification a plus.

  • IT project management experience a plus.

  • Experience working in or teaching in higher education.

  • Interest in IT, cybersecurity, workforce development, or related business and technical fields.

  • Experience working with federal grants.

  • Experience overseeing work of others.

Salary

Salary and Appointment:

  • This is a twelve-month, full-time, grant funded Administrative/Exempt position with possible extension contingent on renewal of grant funding. Exempt from Washington State civil service law with an annual salary based on a range of $45,000.00-$60,000.00 depending on experience.The National Center grants have been hosted at Whatcom Community College and have evolved over the past 11 years, and are expected to be renewed.

Specific Position Requirements:

  • Ability to travel and work some evenings and early mornings, and work over weekends as work requires.

  • Possess a valid WA state driver¿s license for reimbursable travel.

Benefit Package:

  • The position comes with a full benefit package, including health, dental, life, long-term disability insurance and a retirement plan.

  • Accrues 8 hours per month of sick leave and 14.67 hours per month vacation leave.
