The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

As the Executive Underwriting Officer, you will manage a team of technical experts and is accountable for driving the underwriting strategy for Global Risk Solutions (GRS) North America (NA) Workers Compensation (WC) line of business. Ensures deep understanding of underlying drivers of risk and performance to drive consistent underwriting strategy and capabilities. Team is responsible for sharing technical WC expertise through consultation, training, and audits.

Responsibilities

  • Supports underwriting strategy and annual financial plan for GRS NA WC line, aligned with upstream GRS NA and broader strategies and plans.

  • Partners with Casualty CUO and GRS NA sub-segments to set underwriting strategy and monitor performance of plans for pricing, risk origination, market segmentation and risk selection.

  • Oversees the collation of product information to inform planning and track progress against the defined plan and strategy for WC.

  • Provides subject matter expertise and advisory support to aligned CUOs for complex referrals or unusual market developments.

  • Monitors execution of underwriting strategy and portfolio performance against plan; supports aligned CUOs in any referrals escalated.

  • Drives line of business/UW technical excellence across the GRS NA sub-segments, working with Underwriting leaders to identify and resolve issues.

  • Works with Underwriting Leaders to identify product and services enhancements, underwriter capability development opportunities (e.g., skills, tools), and elevates to Casualty CUO. Supports the Casualty CUO and business leaders with the product and underwriting components of strategy and planning processes at the GRS NA WC line level.

  • Models effective collaboration across teams, stakeholders and partners (e.g., UW Support, Claims, Actuarial, NA Product Teams).

  • Participates as a member of boards and project teams across NA.

Qualifications

  • Experience with setting underwriting strategy and portfolio management

  • Product, pricing & underwriting expertise in Commercial and Specialty Lines

  • Has extremely strong technical knowledge of key trends impacting area(s) of underwriting expertise

  • Leader with a strategic mindset and demonstrated relationship-building ability that provides direction for the underwriting operations
