Commercial Insurance Middle Market Underwriter

Chubb is currently seeking a Commercial Insurance Core Middle Market Underwriter to join the Southeast Region Middle Market team. The Core Middle Market book in the Southeast is a $42 million in GWP with $32 million managed in the field.

Candidates should have general P&C underwriting experience and strong sales & marketing skills. The ideal candidate would also have core Middle Market underwriting experience, but it is not a requirement.

This position can be based in the Nashville, TN; Birmingham, AL; or Alpharetta, GA. The position will report to the Branch CI Manager.

Underwriting responsibilities would include the state of Tennessee. Lines of business include Property, General Liability, Auto, Workers Compensation, Excess/Umbrella, Machinery Breakdown and Inland Marine.Underwriting Duties Include:

  • Financial performance of a $4 -6 million renewal book of business.

  • Identifying opportunities for growth within new and existing production sources to meet the annual new business goal of approximately $1,250,000.

  • External agency and insured visits approximately 25 - 30% of the time.

  • Risk selection, analysis (including documentation) and service of accounts based on Chubb Commercial Insurance guidelines.

  • Implementing and managing effective pricing and underwriting strategies for profitable growth.

  • Building, maintaining, and managing successful producer relationships to achieve retention and new business development.

  • Meeting with new and renewal customers, individually or as part of a Chubb team, to make sales presentations and negotiate coverage, price, financial terms and service delivery.

  • Working in a team environment with other Underwriters, Underwriter Associates, Loss Control Representatives, Claim Representatives and Operations Staff.

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to successfully negotiate on all levels and develop producer relationships.

  • Strong track record of service orientation and teamwork.

  • Knowledge of marketing principles, underwriting and pricing strategies.

  • Demonstrated technical expertise and product knowledge in Commercial Insurance.

  • Aptitude to attract and retain profitable business.

  • Strong interpersonal, written communication skills and focus on quality.

  • Ability to work independently and cohesively in a team environment in conjunction with service staff, loss control, field marketing claims and loss control employees.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

  • Strong sales, marketing, and negotiation skills

  • Minimum of 3 years insurance industry experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial lines underwriting experience

  • Proven ability in complex account analysis, prioritization, organization and detail orientation

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment using multiple internal and external resources appropriately, effectively, and efficiently

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software

VIEW JOBS 8/4/2022 12:00:00 AM 2022-11-02T00:00 <p>Summary: This position is responsible for achieving profitable underwriting results in support of growth and profit objectives by appropriate risk selection, agency relations, book management, self-development, and assistance in professional development of others.</p><p>What You'll Be Doing:</p><ul><li><p>Selects profitable risks by identifying and analyzing risk exposures against coverage desired.</p></li><li><p>Manages and underwrites book of business to maintain profitable results, by identifying changes in risk exposures or characteristics, changes in loss trends as measured by loss ratio, loss frequency or other measures.</p></li><li><p>Monitors new business production, renewal and policy retention trends, and agency production and loss ratio results within assigned territory to ensure objectives are met and if necessary develop appropriate corrective action alternatives to meet overall company objectives.</p></li><li><p>Develops effective relationships with agents and other internal and external customers through effective communication, cooperation and periodic agency visits.</p></li><li><p>Drives new business sales growth for Commercial Lines.</p></li><li><p>Develops and maintains full knowledge of all policy forms, coverages, rating plans and manuals for all property and casualty lines written.</p></li><li><p>Assists as needed in the training, mentoring and development of new or less experienced underwriting personnel.</p></li><li><p>Manages assigned work to meet or exceed time and quality service standards.</p></li><li><p>Reviews referrals within the referral guidelines and individual underwriting authority.</p></li><li><p>Maintains appropriate underwriting documentation on the system or in writing as required.</p></li><li><p>Agency Management - executes agency management routines to develop a profitable book of business with each agency: Develops and manages New Business pipeline to ensure a steady stream of business opportunities; analyze quality, volume, mix of business and profit for assigned producers; identify trends in submission activity and work to meet production targets as established; execute actions to achieve policy retention and pricing objectives; participate in agency review process; support Sales Relationship Manager/Territory Sales Manager in conducting sales, product, and process training for agencies and their staff.</p></li><li><p>Responsible for agency travel to increase producer awareness of Enterprise underwriting appetites, philosophy and product offerings maximizing time with the right agencies.</p></li><li><p>Embraces a culture of Continuous Improvement (CI) and actively identifies opportunities for improvement to increase efficiency and decrease waste, aiding in expense reductions for Commercial Lines.</p></li><li><p>Exhibits the company's core values of integrity, candor, ownership, working together and doing the right thing.</p></li><li><p>Places reinsurance and assists less experienced underwriters in obtaining reinsurance quotes.</p></li><li><p>Assists with audits for individuals, team, and department.</p></li><li><p>This position could be hired as Sr. Underwriter or Underwriting Specialist based on level of experience.</p></li></ul><p>What You'll Bring To The Company:</p><p>Bachelor's degree and/or CPCU designation strongly desired. At least three years commercial multiple lines underwriting experience or completion of the Underwriting Training program or comparable experience within the property and casualty insurance industry required.
