The influential Firmwide Strategy Group reports to the firm's Chief Strategy Officer and works with the Executive Office and senior divisional and business unit management to set and execute key strategic priorities for the firm. The group reports to the firm's Chief Strategy Officer, who is an ex-officio member of Management Committee. The group develops, evaluates, and executes plans for new businesses and growth initiatives and leads strategic transactions, including joint ventures, acquisitions, and dispositions, on behalf of the firm.



The individual will help lead strategic M&A teams through all phases of the deal lifecycle, create, evaluate, review, and implement new business plans and initiatives, and develop strategic and financial models and analyses. Our projects provide exposure to the breadth of activities at a major international financial firm with multiple business lines, including its opportunities and challenges, and frequent interaction with senior divisional and firm leadership. The role provides an opportunity to gain the operational perspective of a principal while also serving as a trusted strategic and financial advisor to key internal clients. The Firmwide Strategy group has proven to be a gateway to a number of attractive career paths. Past team members have been promoted to senior leadership positions within the group as well as transitioned to investing and management positions inside Goldman Sachs and elsewhere, corporate strategy roles within various industries, and back to traditional investment banking.

Representative Projects / Transactions:

  • Annual strategy review presentation to GS Board of Directors

  • Helped develop GS Bank strategy and Marcus new business plan

  • Sales of GSAM India, GSAM Australia, and NYSE specialist rights

  • Acquisitions of GECC online retail deposit platform and Honest Dollar Desired

Desired Experience / Skills

  • 1 year Prior investment banking experience

  • Strong knowledge of the financial services industry

  • Ability to review and synthesize information and form independent judgments

  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and technical abilities, including M&A modeling experience

  • Ability to build relationships and consensus across divisions

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with confidence and ability to interact effectively with senior firm leaders

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet competing deadlines

The team collaborateswith the Economics and Strategy Research teams, CFO/Financial Planning teams,Risk functions, and other corporate areas such as Investor Relations and theRegulatory Capital Management Office. Economic assumptions cover key US andglobal economic indicators, fixed income markets, equity markets, etc., andaccordingly, a broad knowledge base across economics and finance is essential.The team develops scenarios across a range of potential economic backdropswhich are distributed firmwide. Overview & Responsibilities The VP is expected to play an integral role in thedevelopment and growth of the team. The role can expect to have exposure tosenior leaders, including but not limited to, the Firm's CFO and CRO and willhave the opportunity to develop important managerial and analytical skillsrequired to advance in the Finance organization. The VP will: * Oversee and participate in hands-onreview of economic forecasting methodologies, documentation, process, and datato assess conceptual and financial soundness of the implementations, as well ascompliance with rules and best practices. * Lead ad-hoc analysis as needed, e.g. evaluating Firm's exposureand sensitivity to key macroeconomic variables, and connecting macroeconomicdrivers to emerging industry trends. * Support the design and execution of economic forecasts that makeup the scenarios, working closely with key partners including suppliers ofeconomic variables (JPM Economic/Strategy research teams or other experts) andusers (Risk and Finance Lines of Business). Experience with scenario planning,CCAR, ICAAP a plus. * Oversee and conduct reviews of forecast models; assess appropriateness of model inputs, methodology, and output. Perform periodic calibration. * Work across lines of businesses to ensure consistent model development and application. Collaborate with governance groups to support model enhancements and maintain model inventory. * Communicate with key stakeholders such as Finance and Risk, Planning & Analysis, quantitative model development, Investor Relations and senior leadership to manage and coordinate inbound questions, deliverables, and ad-hoc requests. * Develop executive-level presentations for senior management, regulators and internal stakeholders * Strong quantitativeskills: Master's degree or equivalent in a quantitative discipline a plus – Econometrics/Statistics,Engineering, Quantitative/Math Finance, etc. * Demonstrablestatistical regression experience * 8+ years of workexperience, with a strong interest in Finance and / or Economics * Experience witheconomic and financial modeling.
