The influential Firmwide Strategy Group reports to the firm's Chief Strategy Officer and works with the Executive Office and senior divisional and business unit management to set and execute key strategic priorities for the firm. The group reports to the firm's Chief Strategy Officer, who is an ex-officio member of Management Committee. The group develops, evaluates, and executes plans for new businesses and growth initiatives and leads strategic transactions, including joint ventures, acquisitions, and dispositions, on behalf of the firm.



The individual will help lead strategic M&A teams through all phases of the deal lifecycle, create, evaluate, review, and implement new business plans and initiatives, and develop strategic and financial models and analyses. Our projects provide exposure to the breadth of activities at a major international financial firm with multiple business lines, including its opportunities and challenges, and frequent interaction with senior divisional and firm leadership. The role provides an opportunity to gain the operational perspective of a principal while also serving as a trusted strategic and financial advisor to key internal clients. The Firmwide Strategy group has proven to be a gateway to a number of attractive career paths. Past team members have been promoted to senior leadership positions within the group as well as transitioned to investing and management positions inside Goldman Sachs and elsewhere, corporate strategy roles within various industries, and back to traditional investment banking.

Representative Projects / Transactions:

  • Annual strategy review presentation to GS Board of Directors

  • Helped develop GS Bank strategy and Marcus new business plan

  • Sales of GSAM India, GSAM Australia, and NYSE specialist rights

  • Acquisitions of GECC online retail deposit platform and Honest Dollar Desired

Desired Experience / Skills

  • 1 year Prior investment banking experience

  • Strong knowledge of the financial services industry

  • Ability to review and synthesize information and form independent judgments

  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and technical abilities, including M&A modeling experience

  • Ability to build relationships and consensus across divisions

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with confidence and ability to interact effectively with senior firm leaders

The team collaborates with the Economicsand Strategy Research teams, CFO/Financial Planning teams, Risk functions, andother corporate areas such as Investor Relations and the Regulatory CapitalManagement Office. Economic assumptions cover key US and global economicindicators, fixed income markets, equity markets, etc., and accordingly, abroad knowledge base across economics and finance is essential. The teamdevelops scenarios across a range of potential economic backdrops which aredistributed firmwide. Overview & Responsibilities TheVP is expected to play an integral role in the development and growth of the team.The role can expect to have exposure to senior leaders, including but notlimited to, the Firm's CFO and CRO and will have the opportunity to developimportant managerial and analytical skills required to advance in the Financeorganization. The VP will: * Support the designand execution of economic forecasts that make up the scenarios, working closelywith key partners including suppliers of economic variables (JPM Economic/Strategyresearch teams or other experts) and users (Risk and Finance Lines of Business). * As a key part ofthe scenario design, analyze historical trends to independently assess thetrajectories of prior economic and financial cycles, and the performance ofvarious asset classes within those cycles. * Explain keyelements of the scenarios and economic environment to primary stakeholders suchas senior management, LOBs, and Risk, Finance and quantitative modeldevelopment teams. * Lead communicationsand meetings across diverse functions, locations and businesses to facilitatediscussions, drive priorities and ensure consensus among stakeholders andsenior management. Examples of key stakeholders include lines of business,Investor Relations, CIB Research, Risk, Regulatory Capital Management Officeand senior management within Risk and Finance * Manage enhancementsto processes and assess the conceptual and financial soundness of strategicimplementation following changes in regulatory or internal requirements,firmwide processes and / or emerging best practices * Oversee andparticipate in hands-on review of economic forecasting methodologies,documentation, process, and data to assess conceptual and financial soundnessof the implementations, as well as compliance with rules and best practices. * Leadad-hoc analysis as needed, e.g. evaluating Firm's exposure and sensitivity tokey macroeconomic variables, and connecting macroeconomic drivers to emergingindustry trends. * Monitor dailyeconomic releases and events, and stay abreast of trends in equity markets,fixed income markets, mortgage markets, etc. and anticipate impacts to currenteconomic assumptions and stress scenario design. * Bachelor'sDegree preferably in Economics, Finance, Accounting or related field; Master'sa plus * 8+years of work experience, with a stronginterest in Finance and / or Economics * Familiarity witheconomic forecasting methods and data sources; strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills; knowledge of VBA or EViews or similar a plus * Exceptionallydetail-oriented with the ability to synthesize large amounts of data, summarizekey concepts and clearly articulate relevant conclusions * Excellentcommunication (verbal and written) skills, with the ability to prepareexecutive level presentations * Strongquantitative, analytical, and problem solving skills.
