OBJECTIVE:

  • Provide Medical leadership, medical strategic planning, resourcing, as well as scientific, medical and clinical oversight in support of medical, payer and patient access strategies for the products within the specific therapeutic area.

  • Lead medical team responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of medical affairs research strategies (including post-approval investigator initiated research, phase 3b/4 and outcomes research) and medical & scientific communication platform(s) for assigned products.

  • Provide medical input into the long-term vision and growth strategies for the products within the related portfolio of the TPUSA Business Unit.


ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Leads product medical team which may include medical directors and matrix team(s).

  • Lead and direct the medical responsibilities by providing scientific insight and development of strategy for assigned products by leading, or actively participating in cross functional teams to realize Takeda's overall vision.

  • Serve as US Medical Office medical and scientific expert for products within assigned therapeutic area and represent US medical affairs on governance committees as appropriate

  • Form integrated partnerships with the corresponding US business Unit and the TPUSA Managed Market Organizations

  • Interact internally with and support Alliance Management, Business Development, Government Affairs, Managed Markets and Marketing & Sales

  • Form integrated partnerships with R&D therapeutic area(s), providing US Healthcare system medical insights into ongoing and planned development programs

  • Interact internally with and influence senior level management requiring negotiation to guide the overall activities of the specific product(s) and therapeutic area.

  • Develop and maintain relationships externally through Advisory Boards, Professional Associations and Meetings. Trade Exhibits etc. to achieve Takeda's scientific objectives

  • Provide oversight medical review, direction, and sign off of promotional pieces processed to the DDMAC Regulatory Affairs committee.

  • Provides scientific leadership in guidance of strategy development for products.

  • Provide scientific and publication plan input to publications strategy for product area.

  • Provide support for departmental initiatives that further our business

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Required:

  • Doctor of Medicine degree or DO degree preferred with at least 10 plus years of experience in pharmaceutical industry and/or academic research, relevant clinical experience, or equivalent combination

  • Other advanced degreed professionals (PharmD, Ph. D) considered depending on past relevant pharmaceutical industry experience, and/or clinical work, research, or academic endeavors

  • Experience with publication activities, congress presentations and public speaking

Desired:

  • Board certification in therapeutic area related to the position.

  • Life cycle management experience

  • Knowledge Sharing - ability to capture knowledge within the organization; improves solutions, processes, and deliverables through use of information; improves information capital by contributing experience, theories, deliverables and models for others to use

  • Knowledge Management ability to document resolution to issues and or customer concerns in a manner that ensures reusability of that resolution

  • Pharmaceutical Industry Acumen -ability to develop and implement business solutions based on trends, opportunities, needs, and market direction within the pharmaceutical industry

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Industry Knowledge - understands the pharmaceutical industry regulations governing medical functions within industry activities and medical regulatory process

  • Product Knowledge understands medical/therapeutic impact of products; understanding of potential product applications

  • Takeda Operations understands Takeda's operating structure and methods including a thorough knowledge of the foreign-owned parent company

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Maintain minimum standards of education/certification in individual professional discipline
