SUMMARY:

The executive editor/senior editor will acquire and publish books as part of the Hachette Books imprint, an imprint committed to bold voices and focused on quality commercial narrative nonfiction in current events, history, memoir/biography, music, and pop culture, as well as for Hachette Go, a new imprint publishing books that help you change your life and work. This position sits in Hachette Books but can acquire for Hachette Go.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acquire and develop projects from a variety of sources

  • Pursue and publish books with a long-term vision, seeking backlist potential

  • Publish 10-12 books per year

  • Work with an entrepreneurial spirit, pursuing ideas for book projects, as well as innovative ways to publish

  • Drive backlist development

  • Assist in developing marketing plans for titles, in collaboration with marketing and publicity teams

  • Negotiate deals, oversee creation of P&Ls, fact sheets, catalog and flap copy

  • Assist in achieving imprint profit goals

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Substantial publishing editorial experience with a focus on nonfiction

  • Proven ability to identify and publish commercial narrative and/or prescriptive nonfiction

  • Ability to identify new talent

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with authors, agents, and HBG staff

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent organizational skills, strong initiative and judgement

  • Results-driven

VIEW JOBS 1/23/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-04-22T00:00 SUMMARY: Hachette Books (a division of Hachette Book Group) is seeking a Publicity Assistant to work closely with the Associate Publisher and Assistant Director of Publicity in an active capacity within a creative and dynamic publishing program. This is a tremendous and unique opportunity to work on a small, highly focused team, learn all aspects of the book publishing process, contribute to the active branding of the imprint, and be a part of publicizing a list of exciting and diverse books and authors. An ideal candidate is thinking about the future of reading and how social media and other nontraditional channels can be utilized to best market books and authors to the world. There will be direct author interaction, communication with the media, potential for travel to author events, an opportunity to provide support at all local events and at some national media appearances, and to become part of various Hachette Book Group initiatives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Support Associate Publisher on all publishing and departmental responsibilities * Support Assistant Publicity Director on a wide array of books by high-profile authors: Non-fiction (narrative, politics, social justice, history, memoir, etc), Fiction, Poetry, and more. * Create press materials including press releases, pitch letters, Q&A's and bios * Develop and maintain relationships with broadcast, print and online media to secure reviews and features * Coordinate and execute media campaigns, implement review copy mailings, manage media lists and tour schedules. * Cultivate and maintain author relationships * Work closely with other departments - editorial, marketing, sales, etc. * General administrative duties KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: * Minimum of 1 year of publishing experience preferred (internships ok) or other relevant work experience * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Attention to detail and superb organizational skills * Able to multi-task, determine priorities, and remain cool under pressure * Proficient in Microsoft Office * Knowledge of Cision Media database a plus Hachette Book Group USA New York NY
