The Executive Director of Sustainability Program Office will drive the execution of large, multi-year, and enterprise-wide sustainability initiatives impacting energy use, building design and engineering, resource conservation, waste elimination, transportation, and staff engagement. Responsible for cross-functional leadership of both internal and external resources to ensure high-quality output and achievement of goals. Drives engagement within the department and across the enterprise to carry out Stanford Medicine's energy reduction and decarbonization goals and commitment to reducing the environmental impact of hospital operations.

A Brief Overview
The Executive Director of Sustainability Program Office (SPO), working directly with senior administrative and physician leadership, is responsible for developing and executing the program's multi-year strategy. The Executive Director provides leadership direction and subject matter expertise on healthcare decarbonization strategies to address issues such as energy use, resource conservation, pollution reduction, waste elimination, transportation, education, and building design. Oversees the execution of business, financial, and operational priorities. Responsible for cross-functional leadership of both internal and external resources to ensure high-quality output and achievement of goals. Drives engagement within the department and across the Enterprise. Is a thought leader within the industry for sustainability in a healthcare delivery system. Is a thought leader in the field of sustainability and is sought-after as a leader across the industry, within coalitions, with the various government agencies. Is effective at forging relationships with key schools/dept across the enterprise including SHC, LPCH, SOM, University and most particularly the Stanford University Doerr School of Sustainability.

What you will do
Education Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university.
Master's degree preferred
Experience Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of local, regional, and national emerging sustainable business strategies
Knowledge of healthcare waste management practices and regulatory compliance
Knowledge of energy management and reduction strategies with the goal of decarbonization
Knowledge of Scope 3 reduction strategies
Knowledge, in general, of environmental practices and procedures in hospital setting
Working knowledge of the drivers for sustainable building design
Knowledge of a variety of local and national associations that are primarily focused on sustainability practices in organizations
Knowledge of financial processes including proven ability to track and manage budgets, capital planning and contract management
Ability to establish strategic direction and plans
Ability to implement change
Ability to communicate effectively and solve complex problems.
Demonstrated ability to lead and engage large teams

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $99.92 - $132.39 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
