Overview

The Executive Director

  • Sustainability is responsible for the strategic development and execution of a comprehensive sustainability program that aligns with overarching goals and engages staff at all levels. This multifaceted role helps position IU Health as a leader in environmental sustainability with the goal of upholding national environmental standards and best practices. The Executive Director is responsible for goal setting, engagement and staff prioritization, program organization and implementation, and monitoring of environmental strategies and goals across IU Health. This work includes coordination and development of energy and water program functions, programs, plans, and policies pertinent to the advancement of IU Health's sustainability goals. The Executive Director works in partnership with their team, serving in the areas of project management and energy. The Executive Director will drive fundraising initiatives around sustainability. In particular, this includes partnership with IU Health Foundation to secure large-scale government and institutional grants. The Executive Director at IU Health leads the organization in deploying environmental sustainability actions that lead to the reduction of ecological damage and promote long-term sustainability. WORK LOCATION AND TOTAL REWARDS:

  • This is hybrid role with 3 days required in office (Tuesday mandatory onsite). The office is in the Medical Towers of IU Health in Indianapolis, Indiana.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's Degree is required. Master's Degree is preferred.

  • Requires 10+ years of relevant experience.

  • U.S. Green Building Council LEED Green Associate certification (preferred).

  • Experience in health care sustainability (preferred).

  • Knowledge of local, regional, and national emerging sustainable business strategies, life cycle assessments (LCA), ROI analysis, and other key sustainability tools and techniques.

  • Has knowledge of waste and inefficiencies common to the health care setting, primarily in the supply chain.

  • Has the ability to construct and direct a network of sustainable business resources.

  • Understands environmental health and safety guidelines, the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in environmental design, the green guidelines for health care, and basic environmental compliance for health care.

  • Has extensive experience with prior budget management authority and financial management.

  • Has extensive experience in cost-benefit analysis in the selection of sustainable business strategies.

  • Has extensive experience in change management and continuous quality improvement.

  • Has advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
