Position Summary

The position of Executive Director of Peri-operative Services is responsible to plan, manage and evaluate patient care services within the Division of Nursing, ensuring that all resources are cost effectively directed to provide quality patient care. In addition, this position is responsible to provide leadership to the management and clinical teams that provide Peri-operative Services across the continuum

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

The Executive Director of Peri-operative Services is a master's prepared Registered Nurse who is responsible to support the vision and goals of the Division of Nursing. In addition, the Executive Director is responsible for the management of daily operations, management of human resources, physician relations, practice development, quality improvement, strategic planning and fiscal oversight for the continuum of care in Peri-operative Services. A multidisciplinary and patient/family centered approach is utilized to integrate the functional operations within the services.

  • Support the vision and goals of the Division of Nursing for Peri-operative Services.

  • Strategic planning and operational tactics for Peri[1]operative Services

  • Management of staffing plan for Peri-operative Services and management of daily fluctuations to ensure fiscal responsiveness

  • Management of Human Resources (recruitment, hiring, evaluating, counseling, termination and team development).

  • Quality Improvement activities

  • Develop, nourish and preserve sound working relations with physicians, organizational leaders and staff.

  • Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.

Long Beach Memorial Hospital is the flagship hospital of the MemorialCare Health System. The 453-bed hospital is Joint Commission accredited, level II Trauma, tertiary, teaching hospital.

Miller Children's & Women's Hospital (Miller Children's) is a nonprofit, pediatric teaching hospital that provides specialized pediatric care for children and young adults, as well as maternity care for expectant mothers. Nationally, only five percent of all hospitals are children's hospitals, and Miller Children's is one of only eight free-standing children's hospitals in California.

Miller Children's has been named one of the top children's hospitals in the nation for quality and safety. The hospital has 357 licensed pediatric and women's beds and is located on a 54-acre campus that it shares with Long Beach Medical Center. These hospitals function under the same tax identification number but are separately licensed hospitals.

Patient and family-centered care is a cornerstone of Miller Children's. It is the only hospital in the region to have a level IV maternity center and a comprehensive level III NICU to provide specialized care for expectant mothers and their babies. Within the hospital there are seven major inpatient care centers.

Miller Children's also has comprehensive outpatient specialty centers that feature more than 40 sub-specialties and include 16 California Children Services (CCS) approved special care centers. These centers provide specialized care for children with conditions, such as asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, bone deformities, congenital heart defects, rehabilitation, autism, cancer, and blood disorders. There are over 870 physicians and pediatric specialist who practice at the hospital.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Registered Nurse licensed in California required.

  • Minimum of 3 years Clinical background in operating room required.

  • Minimum of 3 years hospital management experience in Tertiary Care setting required.

  • Experience in a union environment and employment management practices preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) required.
