Overview

The Executive Director of Organizational Development & Culture will design and implement system-wide organizational development practices and build a culture strategy that reinforces the engagement and retention of all team members while guiding our journey of becoming an "employer of choice."

This high impact role will support the development of IU Health's organizational capabilities to drive better business results and enhance patient care through strong organizational design, leader and team effectiveness, assessment and coaching and targeted engagement/retention strategies. Leads a team of OD Professionals that work directly with Regional Human Resources Business Partners (HRBP) and leaders to build organizational and leadership capabilties that fosters a culture of accountability, inclusion and engagement. This role will partner closely with the VP of Talent Management to build a 3-year culture strategy in partnership with key stakeholders across the enterprise to assess and identify key engagement drivers; make recommendations for organizational improvement and build a culture action plan that aligns and supports the mission, vision and values of IU Health.

Within the Organizational Development & Culture scope, this leader will provide oversight for the following areas: organizational development function, principles and practices, the culture strategy of becoming an employer of choice and overseeing enterprise change management resource(s) and practices. The Executive Director of Organizational Development & Culture will design and support key performance indicators by measuring and tracking key results to ensure impact and accountability. This leader will coach, mentor, and oversee a team of approximately ten team members dedicated to supporting the successful design and implementation of the Organizational Development & Culture strategies.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Support senior leaders in organizational transformation, providing process support and tools that facilitate a proactive development of organizational capabilities in anticipation of change.

  • Align team member and leader behaviors with the IU Health culture through the implementation of core competencies and supporting coaching and development tools.

  • Lead assessment and survey initiatives for the system and establishing approaches to system-wide improvement activities in support of increasing organizational effectiveness and engagement across the organization.

  • Continue the development and implementation of strategies in support of organizational culture and engagement interventions and practices.

  • Provide strong diagnostic insights through qualitative and quantitative analysis.

  • Create development programs to build HRBP skills in organizational diagnosis and design and leader and team effectiveness.

  • Build and maintain a repository of OD assets including tools, information, training materials and resources required for the success of all OD development programs and activities.

  • Continuously benchmark OD and culture practices to keep our competitive advantage.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree in business, organizational development, leadership, or human resources preferred.

  • 10+ years of relevant and complex experience is required, including experience leading teams.

  • Proven experience in creating, owning, growing, and implementing best-in-class OD and culture strategies in a large, highly matrixed organization with multiple executive stakeholders.

  • Strong business acumen, organizational and prioritization skills, and the ability to effectively communicate to a broad range of audiences as well as work collaboratively with diverse groups.

  • Leadership experience in consensus building, developing teams, visionary thinking and organizational alignment and lean process improvement.

  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis capability: Able to see the big picture of an organizational system, understands the context of organizations' functions, and has strong diagnostic skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing demands and to influence multiple and varying stakeholder groups.

  • A proven leader of people able to recruit, develop and mentor a high performing team capable of supporting change with demonstrated leadership in promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace and community.
