Job Description:

The Executive Director of the OCC Foundation leads and administers the OCC Foundation, facilitates the work of the OCC Foundation Board of Directors and associated committees, consistent with Foundation by-laws, related state and federal laws and regulations, and best practices for educational non-profit organizations. The Executive Director works directly with the College President to identify, cultivate, solicit, and engage with top-level donors and prospects. The Executive Director is further responsible for developing and leading the execution of an annual plan focused on major gift prospecting, identification, cultivation, and solicitation in support of the College's mission, strategic plan, and strategic priorities. This includes direct solicitation of major gifts from an identified pool of donor prospects.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

OCC Foundation

  • Leads the work of the Onondaga Community College Foundation, including organizing the annual activities of the corporation consistent with its by-laws.

  • Trains and develops board members to support key fundraising activities.

  • Develops the annual budget for the OCC Foundation, including the establishment and approval of strategic fund-raising financial targets over the relevant budgeting period, and manages expenses within the board-approved budget.

  • Ensures adherence and consistent application of ethical practices and internal controls in the handling of donor information and financial resources. Supports the development of the annual audit.

  • Ensures timely and accurate processing and recording of gifts, acknowledgements, tax receipts, and recognition as appropriate.

  • Ensures the highest level of professionalism relative to accuracy, courtesy, and timeliness of all meetings and materials provided to and on behalf of the OCC Foundation and all board members.

Major Gifts

  • Develops and presents for approval an annual plan for major gifts, including goals, strategies, and timelines.

  • Evaluates and cultivates donor prospects; facilitates and conducts gift solicitations, involving the President and senior leadership as appropriate.

  • Cultivates and organize appropriate opportunities for the President and college leadership to engage with top-level donors, coordinating all details and preparation with appropriate staff.

  • Utilizes and actively maintains data resources contained within Raisers Edge, Blackbaud, and other resources to effectively target, track, and report on prospects, giving activity, and opportunities to grow fundraising support.

  • Recognizes and stewards past and prospective major gift donors.

  • Leads efforts relative to planned giving and estate planning.

Leadership

  • Serves as a collaborative college leader, working with others across the college as necessary to learn about the College's needs, and opportunities for philanthropy, administer the operations of the OCC Foundation, and cultivates and secures financial resources for the College and its students.

  • Maintains currency in the field and all aspects of the position, recommending and identifying opportunities to strengthen and grow the fundraising effort of the College and the OCC Foundation.

  • Supervises a team of professional staff members focused on College advancement activities, including major gifts, annual fund, corporate and foundation relations, and the effective identification and stewardship of donors.

  • All other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university or foreign equivalency. One (1) year of education may substitute for two (2) years of direct experience. (Ex. A person with an Associate's degree is eligible if they have an additional four (4) years of experience in areas listed below in addition to the required 6-8 years).

  • A minimum of six-eight (6-8) years development experience is required;

  • including experience administering a non-profit or foundation,

  • and success with major gifts cultivation and solicitation.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of direct employee supervision, which may have occurred during the 6-8 years of development/administrative experience.

  • Knowledge and experience working and maintaining fundraising software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge for Windows

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and another language will be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to successfully manage a non-profit educational foundation in support of the college and student success.

  • Proven record of progressive, documented success as a major gift fundraiser and fundraising executive.

  • Skill to provide leadership in the planning and direction of philanthropic initiatives.

  • Leadership presence and relationship building skills, with proven experience identifying, cultivating, nurturing and closing significant gifts and contributions to secure support of Onondaga Community College and its students through the OCC Foundation.

  • Demonstrated strength in communication and human relations.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, maintaining regular calendar and office hours, as well as periodic off-hours as responsibilities require.

Additional Information:

  • Salary range is $94,318 - $117,897, commensurate with credentials and relevant experience.

  • This is a full-time, benefits eligible, management/confidential (MC) position.
