This senior leadership position serves as a strategic partner in creating an environment that promotes and supports using research and data analysis to guide decision making and institutional strategy. The Director leads development of a comprehensive, integrated system of data collection, research, assessment, evaluation, analysis, and reporting that supports strategic and operational planning. The Director evaluates progress on key goals and seeks strategies and solutions to achieve effective programs, services and operations. The Director is responsible for proactive questioning and targeted research and analyses on a wide range of institutional issues and synthesizing diverse data points into a coherent set of actionable findings and recommendations. The Director is responsible for the University's comprehensive institutional research and planning functions.
Required Qualifications
Doctorate or equivalent combination of experience and education. (Conferred on an official transcript at the time of application.)
Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience including effective management of data analytics and reporting.
Strong analytical skills and quantitative and qualitative research knowledge and experience.
Must be self-directed with experience leading cross-functional institutional teams in achieving goals; a proven team and talent builder; and able to set clear expectations and establish accountability.
Demonstrated commitment to advancing a diverse and inclusive learning and working environment.
Demonstrated experience proactively utilizing data and research to identify and make recommendations on institutional issues.
Must posses excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills; the ability to shape complex information into presentations that are understandable to diverse audiences; and the ability to communicate effectively in public settings, remain composed under pressure, speak diplomatically on sensitive issues, and maintain confidentiality when necessary.
Persuasion and negotiation, confidentiality, tact, ability to effectively work with internal and external institutional constituencies at all levels
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with data warehouses, data governance and security issues, and technical documentation and standards.
Familiarity with statistical methods, validity and data collection, including the use of qualitative and quantitative methodologies in question design, data and analysis.
Knowledge and understanding of and ability to negotiate organizational dynamics and processes in higher education institutions.
Current knowledge of federal and state higher education policies, issues, regulations and trends and external reporting systems (e.g., IPEDs, accreditation bodies, etc.).
Other Requirements
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.
Occasional evening and weekend work. Occasional overnight travel.
Other physical requirements consistent with standard office environment.
Must have valid driver's license and must pass Fleet Safety Check.
