JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Executive Director of Elementary Education

LOCATION: Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability

PAY: Administrator Salary Schedule

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months

REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer

JOB GOAL: To support Johnston County Public Schools' elementary administrators and teachers in the continuous improvement of curriculum, instruction, data analysis, assessment, and scheduling to improve teaching and learning in the district.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • North Carolina licensure in Administration and Supervision and Master's Degree in School Administration preferred.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (Master's Degree Preferred).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.

  • Strong technology skills.

  • Ability to supervise and coordinate multiple programs and activities.

  • Ability to lead engaging, effective professional development with teachers, administrators and central staff.

  • Minimum of five years teaching experience.

  • Strong organizational skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs, plans, evaluates and provides leadership for elementary instructional programs with focus on curriculum/instruction, assessment, and accountability.

  • Collaborates with elementary school administrators to disseminate information on specific initiatives and training, including but not limited to improving content literacy, PLC's, differentiation, and elementary school reform.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the science of reading research and/or willingness to invest in related professional development.

  • Collaborates with the other Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability staff to provide information and support to teachers.

  • Organizes, coordinates, and implements appropriate professional development both at the central and school levels regarding all facets of the JCPS elementary school program.

  • Meets with administrators, teaching and learning specialists, teachers, and PLC's to provide support on research and evidence -based, instructional strategies.

  • Collaborates with the Office of Testing and Accountability as well as School Improvement to assist administrators, teaching and learning specialists and teachers to secure, analyze, and interpret student data to make instructional decisions that best serve their learners.

  • Observes classrooms to provide feedback and coaching for improved, research based instructional practices.

  • Updates and facilitates the management and distribution of all K-5 curriculum and instruction materials.

  • Collaborates with colleagues to develop agendas for and facilitate meetings including but not limited to K-12 Principals meetings and K-5 Grade-Alike meetings.

  • Attends state and district meetings pertaining to elementary curriculum and instruction as a representative of JCPS.

  • Ensures allocated resources are utilized to best fit the goals of the school system.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms.

  • Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.

  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders including but not limited to: parents, teachers, students, administrators, community leaders, agency representatives and others.
