Executive Director for Curriculum and Instruction
Performs complex professional work planning, directing and implementing county school's instruction, staff development and curriculum programs; provides direction and guidance to a variety of programs affecting all students; does related work as required, and related work as assigned by the Superintendent. Work involves setting policies and goals under the direction of the Superintendent. Departmental supervision is exercised over staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in education required; Curriculum/Instructional Specialist Certification or Administrative Certification (required); Earned Doctorate degree preferred
Professional Educator's License in Administration or Curriculum
Principal leadership experience, LEA level leadership experience or State level leadership experience preferred
Strong understanding of educational programs and strategies to reach all students
Proven successful experience in leading curriculum initiatives including data that documents the experience
Knowledge of school system budgeting process
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ROLES:
Assist the superintendent in leading efforts for continuous improvement .
Direct oversight of curriculum and initiatives K-12
Oversee and direct lead program directors for regular education, gifted education and Career & Technical Education
Design and implement a system for data collection and analysis for program planning and decision-making
Provide leadership in using instructional data to establish system-wide curricular goals
Develop and present a comprehensive needs assessment for the district
Develop and present curriculum plans to train, support and monitor the effective implementation of curriculum initiatives that meet the needs of all students
Present curriculum plans and data for the school system
Plan and lead professional development on various curriculum initiatives
Provide leadership to investigate, pursue, and administer grants to support instructional services
Manage instructional budgets with the input of principals and appropriate district administrators
Analyze and report on the status of district instructional improvement initiatives
Participation in district-wide events such as: Battle of the Books and Spelling Bee
Plan and oversee budgets that may include state, local and federal program budgets
Plan and oversee media and instructional technology programs and initiatives
Oversee and align efforts of curriculum and instructional services to reflect vertical and horizontal continuity
Plan and oversee Summer Reading Camp and summer enrichment initiatives
Monitor and update instructional guides/curriculum maps
Support and oversee instructional coaches
Assist with long and short range strategic planning/fidelity monitoring
Maintain an interactive curriculum website
Attend Board of Education meetings and prepare such reports for the Board as the superintendent may request
Consistently attend district functions
Other similar and related duties/areas of responsibility as assigned by the superintendent

Staff designated by Superintendent
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, walking and sitting and occasionally requires stooping,kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting.
Work has standard vision requirements.
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly.
Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
Work requires traveling within and outside of the county.
Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
