The Executive Director of Counseling and Care provides vision, leadership, and administrative oversight of the strategies, resources, programs, and departments that promote students' holistic well-being.

  • Provides visionary and strategic leadership for a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to student wellness, including administrative leadership for assigned departments, programs, and processes.
  • Provides leadership and overall coordination for the services and operation of the Central Piedmont Wellness Center.
  • Leads the implementation of a "one college" approach for holistic wraparound services, including providing ongoing communication, training, and support to support service leads.
  • Champions student success through the use of data from a variety of sources to identify, implement, evaluate, and improve wraparound student supports.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community and health partners to coordinate student referrals and services.
  • Leads assigned teams through the establishment of interesting and challenging performance goals; monitors performance and determines appropriate personnel actions.
  • Works with department leads and the Associate Vice President of Student Engagement to review and evaluate annual budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Holds regular meetings with departmental managers and Counseling and Care stakeholders to ensure excellent communication, support uniform processes, and foster interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Collaborates with other unit and college leaders to develop, implement, and evaluate innovative strategies to increase student engagement and retention.
  • Maintains awareness of best practices, emerging trends, and legislation related to student retention and support services.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, monitoring, and revision of policies and procedures related to student support services, veteran services, services for students with disabilities, student conduct, student counseling, and student basic needs supports.
  • Assists with the planning of significant student events, including the College's commencement ceremonies.
  • Provides support for the Associate Vice President of Student Engagement and other areas of Student Affairs, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Master's degree in Student Development or related discipline, three years of supervisory experience and five years of related work experience of which includes a combination of two years of experience in student support. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hold a license in a wellness-related field (i.e. LCSW, LCMHC, LCAS, LPA)
  • Experience working in a wellness center or clinical environment

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of program assessment and evaluation 
  • Strong budget management skills 
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively in an intercultural environment 
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical issues in student development 
  • Strong computer skills
  • Knowledge of current trends in student retention and support
  • Leadership and supervisory skills
  • Ability to focus on multiple priorities
