Primary Job Function:

The Reynoldsburg City Schools' Executive Director of Business & Operations is responsible for providing leadership for the district's strategic vision regarding the planning, implementation, and evaluation of RCS business operations. The Executive Director of Business is responsible for ensuring financial stability and proper budget management through managing risk, maintaining accountability, supporting a positive public image, and cultivating support within the RCS community. The Executive Director of Business is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and provides leadership on organizational initiatives on behalf of the Superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible management experience in business operations and management.

  • Licensed by the State of Ohio as a School Business Manager or the ability to become licensed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

  • Experience within a K-12 environment

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. Leadership

  • Responsible for carrying out the vision and directives of the Superintendent

  • Responsible for oversight and direction of the district's business operations. This includes but is not limited to:

Food Service

Technology

Safety & Security

Facilities & Maintenance

Transportation

Support Services

Athletics

  • Responsible for providing overall planning, development, evaluation, coordination, and maintenance of space, grounds, and related building infrastructure throughout the District

  • Responsible for the development of short- and long-term capital planning for the areas of responsibility

  • Responsible for the development and execution of all lease activity and any usage of District facilities

  • Responsible for the administration of the Reynoldsburg School Support Association (RSSA) collective bargaining agreement

  • Responsible for working with the Director of Safety and Security to ensure the overall safety of the District and the development of the School Safety Plan

  • Responsible for the oversight of all permanent improvement projects within the district

  • Responsible for negotiating and managing all contracts with outside vendors and contractors

Communication and Support

  • Coordinate assigned services and related communications and information between administrators, personnel, outside organizations, the community, and various local, State, and federal agencies

  • Evaluate and ensure proper and timely resolution of staff, operational, administrative, and parental issues and conflicts related to assigned services

  • Advise the Superintendent concerning operational matters

  • Analyze District issues and provide recommendations to the Superintendent concerning the appropriate course of action

  • Provide leadership for district marketing, including but not limited to individual schools, crisis management, referendum campaigns, and surveys

  • Provide consultation and technical expertise to administrators, personnel, and others concerning assigned operations and services

  • Respond to inquiries and provide detailed and technical information concerning related laws, standards, requirements, issues, needs, goals, rules, regulations, policies and procedures

  • Responsible for the oversight of state and federal reporting

  • Oversee and participate in the preparation, processing, and distribution of internal and external correspondence and publications regarding assigned services

Budget and Finance

  • Monitor and analyze assigned District operations and activities for financial effectiveness and operational efficiency

  • Direct the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and programs to enhance the financial effectiveness and operational efficiency of assigned operations, activities, and support services.

  • Develop and prepare the annual preliminary budget for assigned areas and support services

  • Analyze and review budgetary and financial data

  • Control and authorize expenditures under established limitations.

  • Assure adequate resources and personnel to meet operational needs in assigned areas

  • Coordinate the purchase of equipment and supplies and contracting of services as needed

  • Direct and assure accurate and timely preparation and maintenance of a variety of records, files, and reports related to programs, projects, budgets, services, financial activity, personnel, and assigned duties

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the comprehensive organization, operations, policies, and objectives of assigned department or area

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources

  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services; this includes a customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction

  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process

  • Skilled in decision-making and considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one

  • Skilled in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions

  • Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems

  • Ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented

  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand

  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense

  • Ability to prioritize conflicting needs while handling matters expeditiously, proactively, and following through on projects to a successful completion

  • Ability to interact with staff at all levels in a fast-paced environment, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment

  • Ability to manage stress

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands-While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others, sit or stand, and move around for extended periods. The employee must also be able to occasionally push, pull, lift, and carry over 25 pounds.

  • The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
