Executive Director Learning Centers James Madison University (JMU) invites applications and nominations for an Executive Director to lead the Learning Centers.
The Learning Centers include the Communication Center, Digital Communication Consulting, English Language Learner Services, Peer Assisted Study Sessions, the Science and Math Learning Center, and the University Writing Center.
Our 15 full-time faculty and staff and 152 tutors, consultants, and student peer educators provide tutorials, workshops, consultations, and course-embedded programming to support learning across disciplines.
Last year alone, the Learning Centers supported 45,675 student encounters.

Our instructional faculty and highly trained peer educators enhance learning through customized instruction, scholarly investigation, and faculty and student development.
The Executive Director, working collaboratively with Learning Centers faculty and staff, will champion peer education and student learning on campus.
Primary responsibilities of the Executive Director will include: providing vision and direction for the Learning Centers based on campus needs and best practices in academic support services facilitating and promoting high-quality tutoring and peer education practices supporting the research of the faculty and students working in and with the Learning Centers mentoring and evaluating faculty and staff performance managing faculty contractual relationships with academic departments and programs representing JMU in the national discussion on higher education tutoring and advancing the visibility of JMU and the Learning Centers facilitating the ongoing integration of academic support services among the various centers within the Learning Centers as well as with other units on campus that provide related academic support to students and faculty offering expertise in peer tutoring for practitioners both on campus and off providing administrative and budgetary oversight of the Learning Centers The Executive Director will contribute to diverse, respectful, and inclusive working and learning environments.
This includes encouraging the professional development of all Learning Centers employees and building collaborative and trusting relationships with faculty, staff, and administration.
Successful candidates must hold a terminal degree in their discipline and should have a strong record of teaching, tutoring practice, research, mentoring students and faculty, outreach to external partners, and university/professional service.
