Saint Joseph's University seeks a dynamic, ambitious, and compassionate leader to serve as the next Executive Director of the nationally-recognized Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support. The Executive Director is charged with providing strategic direction and oversight of the Center in pursuit of its two-fold mission: Educating the autism professionals of tomorrow, while serving individuals and families affected by autism today.

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Education and Human Development, the Executive Director will work in collaboration with the Kinney Center's Academic Director, internal partners from across the University, and external partners locally and nationally to spearhead the continued growth, innovation, and impacts of the Center's activities and programs. The Executive Director will lead the Center's professional staff, oversee the financial management and fundraising efforts of the Center, and develop and manage external relations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership to Kinney Center staff and programs, including directly supervising senior staff, empowering diverse teams to achieve operational excellence, and building an organizational structure that aligns with the work and ambition of the Center.

  • Leverage existing high profile relationships and build new strategic partnerships with autism leaders and autism organizations throughout the region and nationally.

  • Collaborate with an external advisory board, SJU administration and academic leadership, and the co-founders of the Center to lead the development of a renewed vision and to implement an associated action plan for increasing the long-term impacts and success of the Kinney Center.

  • Drive the Kinney Center's financial sustainability strategies through a self-funding financial model. This includes, but is not limited to, fundraising efforts, managing the Center's budget, and creating opportunities for future growth through new revenue-generating initiatives, private philanthropy, public and private grants, and state-funded contracts.

  • Evaluate the performance and impact of Kinney Center programs and make key strategic decisions based on a variety of data-informed metrics.

  • Collaborate with University leadership to maintain the position of the Kinney Center as a strategic asset that aligns with University priorities.

  • The Executive Director also will work closely with academic and administrative departments across the University, including:

  • Provost Office, Deans, and Department Chairs to identify and implement academic programs and experiential learning opportunities.

  • Enrollment Management to maintain and expand Saint Joseph's position as a top destination for both autism studies and autistic students, creating initiatives to drive enrollment.

  • Career Development Center to leverage career opportunities for graduates of the Kinney SCHOLARS and ASPIRE programs.

  • Marketing and Communications to create high-impact messaging, including social media content, that will promote the mission of the Kinney Center in local and national media.

  • External Affairs to host elected officials and other governmental representatives on campus.

  • Office of General Counsel to ensure compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Health and other applicable regulations.

  • Office of Human Resources regarding the recruitment and retention of Kinney Center employees.

  • Office of Student Life to support the residential and social lives of our students in the ASPIRE program.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Boundless passion for the Center's mission of autism education and support;

  • Master's degree in business administration, non-profit management, or a related field and/or a graduate degree in a related clinical discipline - e.g., social work, counseling, applied behavior analysis, clinical psychology;

  • Significant and proven leadership and management skills developed through at least five years in management positions in a supervisory capacity in a non-profit or service-providing organization;

  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence;

  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Ability and commitment to work closely with team members to achieve goals;

  • Excellent presentation skills, including ability to present to faculty and students in various disciplines and to a variety of internal and external stakeholders;

  • Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills;

  • Experience managing a complex budget

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with regulatory compliance;

  • Experienced track record in identifying, cultivating, and maintaining productive relationships with strategic partners;

  • Proven track record of fundraising with corporate sponsors, government officials, and individual donors;

  • Success in generating revenue sources;

  • Excellent analytical, organizational development, interpersonal, marketing, communication, presentation, administrative, and management skills;

  • An entrepreneurial mindset that is tethered to an academic community;

  • Ability to foster a healthy organizational culture that encourages teamwork and collaboration, providing honest and timely feedback while developing supervisors who do the same;

  • Agility in navigating a University setting;

  • Ability to lead, inspire, and motivate undergraduate and graduate students
