Reports To: MRA Board of Directors

Supervises: The Molalla River Academy Executive Director is responsible for the observation and evaluation of all licensed staff members. Non-licensed staff may have a designated supervisor as deemed appropriate by the Director.

Summary: Under the direction of the MRA School Board (Board), the Molalla River Academy Executive Director (Director) is responsible for serving as the Board's chief executive officer providing leadership and vision in the establishment and implementation of the Charter School's organizational mission, goals, and strategic plans.

Duties and responsibilities of the job include providing executive leadership and direction over the formulation and implementation of Charter School's educational programs and services; serving as the primary spokesperson for the Charter School and representing the Charter School before the public and all other audiences. Further responsibilities include providing direction and supervision over Charter School personnel and overseeing the use of funds, resources and facilities in order to best provide for the educational needs of students and the community.

Provides Visionary Charter School Leadership

Tasks involved in fulfilling above responsibility:

Demonstrates a personal philosophy that embodies the adopted vision of Molalla River

Academy

Leads a collaborative process with the board to design (or reaffirm) MRA's mission and vision

that reflects a core set of values and priorities

Leads diverse stakeholder involvement in the development (or revision) of the Charter School's Continuous Improvement Plan/Integrated Application based upon the school's mission and vision
Implements the charter school's Continuous Improvement Plan and communicates its progress
Provides advocacy and insight to the Charter Board and School about legislative concerns

impacting education and particularly charter schools.

Establishes and Maintains a Culture of Strong Ethics and Professional Norms

Tasks involved in fulfilling above responsibility:

Ensures ethical decisions and cultivates professional norms and culture including equity, fairness, integrity, transparency, trust, collaboration and perseverance
Makes ethical and legal recommendations to the Board
Models ethical behavior in their own conduct and cultivates ethical behavior in others

Cultivates an Inclusive Charter School Culture

Tasks involved in fulfilling above responsibility:

Develops and maintains a supportive, equitable, culturally responsive and inclusive school culture
Evaluates, cultivates and advocates for equitable access to safe and nurturing schools, and the

opportunities and resources necessary to support the success and well-being of each student

Ensures equitable, inclusive and culturally responsive instructional and behavioral support practices among teachers, administrators and staff

Facilitates Culturally Responsive Instructional Leadership and Improvement

Tasks involved in fulfilling above responsibility:

Evaluates, designs, fosters and implements coherent systems of curriculum instruction, supports, assessment and instructional leadership
Implements coordinated systems of support, including coaching and professional development for staff
Manages an appropriate system of assessments and data collection, and analysis that supports instructional improvements, equity, students learning and well-being, and instructional leadership
Ensures instruction through the charter school utilizes culturally responsive practices and all staff are trained

Builds Effective Communication and Community Relations

Tasks involved in fulfilling above responsibility:

Develops and implements effective and collaborative systems that engage multiple and diverse stakeholder groups
Engages and effectively communicates with diverse families, community partners and other constituencies to strengthen student learning
Cultivates relationships and partnerships with members of the business, civic and local government in support of their advocacy for the Charter School and community needs
Goes beyond the Charter School and local community to advocate for students at the county, regional and/or state level

Provides linkages between the community and Charter School

Demonstrates Effective Organizational and Contract Management

Tasks involved in fulfilling above responsibility:

Implements equitable strategies, processes and systems to recruit, hire, develop and retain high performing personnel who demonstrate a shared commitment to student success
Maintains strong lines of communication with the Charter's sponsoring district and proactively involves/informs the sponsoring district of any high level information of which the sponsoring district should be aware
Directs and supports the state reporting compliance for the Charter
Creates and maintains organizational structures that maximize the Charter School's capacity to positively impact student learning
Supervises, hires, evaluates and manages Charter School staff.
Provides vision and defined autonomy to the Charter School staff.
Understands the charter School's responsibilities as defined in the sponsoring district's Charter contract.
Ensures compliance with the contract, including timely submission of high-quality deliverables
Updates the Board on contract compliance issues, renewal process, and other pertinent information related to the Sponsoring Charter contract and/or health of the organization

Maintains Effective Financial Management

Tasks involved in fulfilling above responsibility:

Works with accounting firm in the development of the annual school budget aligned with Board priorities and reflective of projects available resources
Manages the equitable implementation of the Charter School resources aligned with the budget adopted by the Board
Collaborates with the Accountant and Board Treasurer to monitor budget balances and cash flows to ensure that the Charter School can adequately meet obligations; monitors reserves; and assists in the formulation of assumptions to make appropriate financial and budget projections.
Communicates the budget priorities and ensures regular updates on implementation of the budget
Works with the Accountant to meet all state budget and audit requirements in compliance with deadlines established by the State of Oregon

Implements Structures to Support Policy, Governance and Advocacy

Tasks involved in fulfilling above responsibility:

Develops relationships, leads collaborative decision-making and governance, and advocates for Charter School needs in local, county and state policy conversations
Cultivates a respectful and responsive relationship with the Charter School Board focused on achieving the shared mission and vision of the Charter School including:

Works with the Board to set agendas, board workshops and retreats
Assists the Board in developing and assessing policies governing the Board/Charter School Director relationship, including evaluation of the Charter School Director's performance
Assists the Board in developing strategies and priorities and supports staff in reporting to the Board

Assists the Board in developing and periodically assessing governing policies
Maintains current working knowledge of and ensures compliance with charter school policies implemented by the Oregon Department of Education
Implements, maintains and communicates Charter School, state and national policy, laws, rules and regulations to staff, Board, and other appropriate stakeholders
Oversees the maintenance of all administrative policies required by the Board and/or statute
Establishes educational and operational priorities for the Charter School. Provides linkages between the community and the Charter School

Experience needed:

  • Current TSPC Administrator License

  • Masters in education field

  • Preferred experience as an administrator

  • Experience in managing, supporting and promoting growth in staff
