Introduction:

Xencor is an innovative, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company located in the Los Angeles area-near Pasadena-and in San Diego. We use our pioneering XmAb technology to discover and develop better biotherapeutics, antibodies and cytokines with improved function, with the goal of improving patient outcomes and quality of life. We have an excellent opportunity for an Executive Director, Information Technology to join our team.

This position is based in Pasadena, CA. and is a hybrid position with 3 days a week onsite.

Summary:

Responsible for leading Xencor's information technology department to support research and development operations and company infrastructure.

Job Duties Include:

Operations support:

  • Builds and leads the IT team to support corporate systems and infrastructure in all locations

  • Provides technologies and procedures to enable research and development functions to operate efficiently

  • Implements technology applications and platforms across the organization through strategy, design, implementation, and expansion to provide innovative solutions to enable more efficient business operations and faster, more effective achievement of business strategies and goals.

  • Evaluates and anticipates the company's technology needs and leads a team that proactively implements and supports these objectives

  • Responsible for forecasting technology requirements and upgrades to existing technology to improve efficiencies of existing systems

  • Executes company initiatives and information system strategies

  • Assesses and anticipates technology needs and sets and manages budgets accordingly

  • Designs and implements short and long-term strategic plans to ensure IT infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements

  • Works closely with business functions to develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of business needs and objectives in both the business and technology realms

  • Negotiates with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure IT products and services

  • Leads implementation of IT upgrades for all offices

  • Identifies, collects and optimizes IT metrics to measure the success and efficiency of the IT department

  • Supports the identification, validation and remediation of information technology controls.

IT Compliance:

  • Implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures to operate IT department in a public company environment

  • Establishes necessary procedures and documentation to comply with SEC internal control requirements.

  • Ensures the alignment of products and operations with existing and new compliance objectives and risk mitigation for IT security

  • Maintains, tests and documents any technology-based systems and processes required to support the Company's SEC SOX reporting requirements subject to review by auditors

  • Ensures IT asset management, including maintenance of hardware and software license inventory, lifecycle management and related documentation are managed in accordance with company policy

  • Develops IT compliance policies, processes, procedures and standards and updates as needed to stay current with best practices and meet business needs.

Cybersecurity:

  • Implements and documents technologies, policies and procedures to insure current cybersecurity safeguards and best practices are adopted.

  • Provides documentation to comply with SEC cybersecurity disclosures.

  • Ensures the effectiveness of cybersecurity solutions, including technologies, procedures and IT staff including third parties

  • Oversees incident response system and business interruption and continuity procedures in coordination with cybersecurity policies and procedures.

End user support:

  • Provides technologies, training and support to end users to enable efficient communication and operations across departments and locations with employees, third party vendors and partners

  • Develops, implements and maintains best practices to deliver reliable, secure, and high performing technological solutions

  • Ensures desktop support functions support all required systems such as VMware ESXi servers, Mitel (ShoreTel) communications services, iSCSI SAN, Windows servers, Office 365 and Azure services, Windows desktops/laptops, iPhones, telecommunications, voicemail, patching/updates, WatchGuard firewall/VPN devices, Backup Exec disk- and tape-based backups, LAN/WAN, technical support, and security patching

  • Reviews and upgrades as necessary cybersecurity technologies and procedures against CIS best practice standards. Works with third party consultants on annual PEN testing and review of other cybersecurity technologies

  • Ensures company systems including NetSuite, Dayforce, Concur, research and document systems (DMS), electronic lab notebooks (ELN's), and single sign on (SSO) are effectively administered and managed

  • Adheres to all department and company-wide policies regarding conduct, performance and procedures

  • Provides oversight and direction to direct and indirect reports, as applicable, in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures. The responsibilities may include, but are not limited to recruiting, training, communicating job expectations, appraising and managing job performance, delivering feedback and coaching, and providing career development planning and opportunities

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Position requires a bachelor's degree, 18 years of related experience, with at least 8 years leading and managing an IT function or department. Master's degree preferred. Requires significant experience managing IT project planning, budgeting and coordination of IT resources to support business needs in a complex matrixed

organization. Directly related experience with SEC reporting in a publicly held company within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical or life sciences industry, and experience/compliance responsibility in a government-regulated or SEC environment also required.

Additional Requirements for Laboratory and Research Related Jobs

This role may involve exposure to experimental subjects and/or specimens including infected samples, plus various Hazardous Materials and infectious agents (Bloodborne Pathogens, or other potentially infections materials (OPIMs). Therefore, the following are also required:

  • Ability to follow the established Environmental Health & Safety rules, procedures, and/or BioSafety Guidelines

  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)

  • Knowledge of biosafety techniques and aseptic/gowning practices

  • Experience with laboratory safety standards and procedures, including biohazard handling and disposal techniques, and the ability to ensure laboratory compliance with required safety regulations

Occasional travel may be required, including travel between Xencor's Pasadena and San Diego offices. Work for this position is generally performed at Xencor's worksite and requires full-time commitment.

Expected Base Salary Range: $245,000.00 - $285,000.00

The actual salary will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications, including skills, competencies, education and experience.
